The Center for Population Health Sciences (PHS) at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a Biostatistician 3 at 75% FTE for study design and data science work focused on COVID-19, pregnancy and disability in the American Family Cohort. The American Family Cohort (AFC) is a national EHR dataset comprised of over 7 million unique individuals from a variety of sources. These data have been used for research in health economics, health services and health equity. We seek an individual with an experience in claim and EHR data conducting research in COVID-19, pregnancy and disability. The ideal applicant will have experience in both claims and EHR data or a strong interest in applying advanced methods to primary care and population health research.

The Biostatistician 3 will specifically work on a project in collaboration between PHS the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Project aims include monitoring COVID-19 hot spots and trends and to obtain the analytic products and deliverables to inform the COVID-19 emergency public health response and working closely with physician collaborators on quality and continuity metrics in clinical care both before and during the pandemic.

This position will also be the lead statistician in charge of a portfolio of projects using other datasets hosted at the Stanford PHS Data Core which include commercial claims, EHRs and other health and social determinants data. Responsibilities may include sample projects, advising faculty and junior staff on model and cohort selection and similar.

This position will be primarily responsible for designing research and analyses in the AFC, a large, rich, national EHR dataset. The applicant should be experienced in research using EHR data for COVID-19 research. The Research Data Analyst is expected to be exposed to working in the cloud environment and learning machine learning techniques. The role requires working independently with minimal supervision, as well as communicating results in code, orally, and in writing to internal and external researchers and stakeholders. This position will also be expected to curate and create new derivative datasets and perform data management procedures, including data security, as well as train and update other researchers and staff on these procedures. In addition, the position requires project management skills helping to move projects along for internal and external collaborators and assisting in the design and management of new projects. This position provides ample opportunity for first author publications.

Duties include:

• Oversee lower-level staff on quality control.

• Oversee lower-level staff on creation of analytic files.

• Identify appropriate statistical tools for analysis.

• Implement data analysis through statistical programming.

• Consult with investigators and others on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses; assist in study design.

• Develop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.

• Mentor clinical investigators on relevant research methods.

• Implement studies to address statistical issue arising from collaborations.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate. The expected pay range for this position is $120,157 to $154,319 per annum at 100% FTE. The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 75% FTE.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics or related field and at least 5 years of experience or Ph.D. in biostatistics, statistics or related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

• Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.

• Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.

• Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator).
