The Stanford University Department of Biochemistry seeks a Life Science Technician 1 (LST I) at 100% time for a 1 year fixed term. The LST I will work with mammalian tissue cultures under Standard University approved protocols and will create laboratory buffers and reagents. The position also requires accurate record keeping of experiments and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Opportunities for growth in responsibility and % time.

This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

One year’s employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions. Must be accurate, efficient, and reliable, have excellent record keeping abilities and have good communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.

  • Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.

  • Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds

  • Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds

  • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.

  • Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, or hazardous materials. Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.

BSL2 biohazard (working with replication defective adenovirus)

The expected pay range for this position is $29.56 (Step 1) to $35.64 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
