Requisition # 100759

Dr. Taia Wang’s laboratory in the Institute for Immunity, Transplantation, and Infection (ITI) at Stanford University is seeking a highly motivated Life Science Research Professional 1 (LSRP 1) to assist in our studies of antibodies, vaccine responses, and pathogenesis of viral infections. We use in-vivo and in-vitro systems and a variety of technologies to answer interesting questions related to immunity and disease.

Studies in our lab are driven by the hypothesis that IgG repertoire diversity is a central driver of heterogeneity in human immune functioning and susceptibility to diseases. We are specifically interested in the diversity that exists in the Fc domain repertoire among people, which we define by serum IgG subclass and Fc glycoform distributions. We have found that the Fc domain repertoire of an individual impacts key immune processes such as vaccine responses and susceptibility to antibody-dependent enhancement of dengue disease. This is because IgG subclasses and Fc glycoforms dictate the structure of Fc domains within immune complexes that form during vaccination or infection. This in turn determines the affinity of immune complexes for various Fc receptors on effector cells. Thus, our research seeks to define how the Fc domain repertoire of an individual determines the quality of effector cell responses that can be recruited during immune activation.

The LSRP1 will be expected to perform tasks that support the entire laboratory including maintenance of a large mouse colony, producing recombinant proteins, maintaining stocks, and updating inventories. The LSRP1 will have opportunities to contribute to research projects and perform independent experiments that further the project goals. The position offers room for growth and further opportunities.

Duties include:

• Manage the laboratory’s mouse colony by utilizing mouse handling skills, maintaining detailed records, interpreting genotype results, and communicating with veterinary staff.

• Perform general lab maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, producing commonly used proteins and plasmids, maintaining stocks, updating inventories, and providing general lab support as needed.

• Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in the lab based on knowledge of scientific theory.

• Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.

• Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.

• Review literature to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.

• Maintain extremely detailed records of laboratory work and outcomes.

*- Other duties may also be assigned

The expected pay range for this position is $53,000 to $76,000 per annum/hour.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.

At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
