Research Scientist Position, Division of General Pediatrics, Stanford Department of Pediatrics

TheDepartment of Pediatricsin the Stanford University School of Medicine is committed to advancing the health of infants, children, and adolescents through innovative medical care, research, training, and advocacy. The department is one of the largest in the Stanford University School of Medicine and is ranked among the top in the nation.

The overall mission of theDivision of General Pediatricsin the Pediatrics Department is to improve the health and well-being of all children through cross-disciplinary advancements in patient care, medical education, advocacy and community engagement and research.

ThePartnerships for Research in Child Health Labin the Division of General Pediatrics at Stanford uses community-engaged research approaches to partner with communities to develop and evaluate programs and policies to reduce child health inequities for low-income and minority communities. Conducting research with community partners ensures that research topics are salient, methods are feasible, and that evidence is translated to impact practices and policies to promote health for the most vulnerable populations. The lab works on a variety of studies, funded by the National Institutes of Health, Stanford, and foundations, focused on promoting nutrition security for low-income populations of color.

The Partnerships for Research in Child Health Lab is seeking a passionate and dedicated Research Scientist to join our team. In this role, the Research Scientist will collaborate with multiple investigators and partners spanning interdisciplinary fields of health policy, business, engineering, education, medicine and public health. The Scientist will also work closely with community-based organizations, parents, youth, schools, advocates, and public health agencies. They will bring expertise in community-engaged research, public health, nutrition, health policy, or other relevant fields to help design and direct the implementation of innovative and impactful research that is translated to impact policies and practices to promote health equity. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about collaborative research bridging academia and the communities we serve.

Responsibilities include:

  • Help to design research approaches for research project(s), including background research, study design and implementation, problem solving, and writing results up for publication.

  • Engage communities including schools, childcare centers, community-based organizations, public health agencies, and advocates in the research process.

  • Help to implement and evaluate studies, enter, clean, analyze and interpret research data, and assist with dissemination of research findings.

  • Assist with new research proposals and applications for funding and grants.

  • Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with research.

  • Prepare periodic progress reports or written reports for funders.

  • Assist with institutional review board applications and modifications.

  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams across different faculties or institutions.

  • Assist with grant budget oversight in collaboration with the principal investigator or managers.

  • Work to ensure lab complies with regulations and all required trainings.

  • Formally supervise and train new staff or students as needed, including hiring, performance management, and related duties

  • Contribute substantively to the preparation of papers for publication, especially in the results section, formatting figures and tables, and assisting with citations. Opportunity to serve as primary author or co-author on publications. Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences. Help prepare other deliverables including policy briefs or infographics.
