Job Description:

Roles Summary/Purpose:

Reporting to the VP, of Model Governance, this role will support the model risk management framework and overall model governance process for Synchrony Financial.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Act as the secretary of the Model Risk Management Working Group.

  • Act as the liaison for 2nd line processes, such as Records and Information Management, Business Continuity, Risk Assessment Questionnaire, and Process Risk Control Self-Assessment.

  • Partner with the supplier management and source-to-pay teams to complete the model supplier onboarding process. Drive enhancements and change management for vendor model supplier risk management best practices.

  • Perform and enhance model identification controls and governance:

  • Provide model definition and governance education and model initiation support to the 1st line.

  • Foster strong partnerships with other 2nd line functions in the model identification governance

  • Sample and review non-model tools to identify potential model identification gaps

  • Develop and maintain root cause analysis for missed models.

  • Complete model initiation: present new model initiation to the model risk management working group for model/non-model classification and model tiering decision. Ensure the model inventory process is completed on a timely basis.

  • Support the model tiering methodology update

  • Coordinate the quarterly ongoing monitoring submission and review process

  • Enhance the knowledge and awareness of current/emerging model risk and program initiatives across SYF

  • Provide consultation to the model reviewers to execute and adhere to model standards

  • Support regulatory examinations and requests for information on model governance practice and evidence

  • Represent the Model Governance Team in face-to-face meetings with business line partners as a Subject Matter Expert on modeling standards, guidelines, and control structures

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Economics, Finance or other quantitative field and 5+ years in risk analytics or governance; OR

  • Master's degree and 3+ years in risk analytics or governance;

  • Demonstrate a strong risk management mindset and behavior. Experience and background in analytics.

  • Expert verbal and written communicator, modulating content based on audience. Capture discussion and minutes of diverse technical topics. Strong oral and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.

  • Knowledge of key regulatory entities, such as FRB and OCC, and their requirements and execution in the banking/financial institution

  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex analytical and governance projects and initiatives

  • Strong analytical, risk management, and problem-solving skills

  • Self-starter, ability to multi-task, persistent, follow through, deadline sensitive, and detail-oriented.

Desired Characteristics :

  • 5+ years in the financial services industry including both analytic/modeling/quantitative experience and governance/policy-related roles.

  • Experience and background in model development or validation. Strong knowledge of SR 11-7.

  • Familiarity with consumer lending products and practices

  • Sharp focus on accuracy with extreme attention to detail.

  • Excellent Project Management Skills, as well as oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Excel Macros. Working knowledge of Coupa, Tableau and Python/SAS/R

Grade/Level: 10

The salary range for this position is 75,000.00 - 130,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
