UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies Systems Engineer in Stafford, Virginia

Overview

Bowhead seeks a Systems Engineer to serve on a portfolio of IT business systems with the key duty of assisting the Government systems engineering team in software design, development, testing, technical specification development, and other engineering management duties such as configuration management, risk management, cyber security, and technical assessments. The Government portfolio supported contains a mixture of legacy software sustainment systems in addition to several new system modernization initiatives. TheSystems Engineerwill serve an essential role in helping the Government to achieve these goals working side by side with project managers and engineers to manage and oversee agile teams and the associated software development effort.

Responsibilities

• Apply software engineering principles to analyze and problem-solve, implement processes, establish, and update roadmaps for IT systems.

• Work with the Program Management Office (PMO) to develop plans and tactics for project execution.

• Generate technical specifications and work with software development teams to establish and update program backlogs.

• Design and develop test cases.

• Demonstrate test case traceability to system requirement.

• Analyze existing systems to provide recommendations for improvement.

• Support development of project documentation and briefs.

• Monitoring system performance and performing predictive maintenance.

• Participate in project team meetings, technical exchanges, and other reviews.

• Assist in conducting technical reviews.

• Support technical troubleshooting efforts (e.g. system performance degradation, code reviews, system audits, etc.).

Qualifications

• BA/BS Degree in a technical or engineering field

• Experience in one or more of the following technologies / coding languages: Appian, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Permuta, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, .Net, C, Java, python, SQL, Kubernetes, Microservices

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing software development to include design, debugging, and troubleshooting

• Two plus (2+) years operating in a DoD IT environment

• Familiar with the RMF process, DevSecOps, information systems security, and Agile software development methodologies (Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is a plus)

• Ability to lead discussions, meetings, and technical exchanges

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, emphasizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Ability to work and communicate across multiple small teams, balance time, priorities, and work independently when required

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Security + Certification (IAT Level 2 or higher)

Desired:

• Three plus (3+) years of experience performing risk management, configuration management, testing, and requirements management

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Successfully pass a T1 investigation. At this time, there are no clearance requirements. Candidates with a security clearance are highly encouraged to apply. US Citizenship is required.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
