POSITION SUMMARY

The FFS Hospital ED Clinician for the Emergency Department Crisis Services program provides crisis assessment, intervention, and clinical and case management services to a mix of adults and children with substance abuse and/or behavioral health concerns in an ED setting. As appropriate, the Hospital ED Clinician will divert individuals from the emergency department, hospital inpatient units, and/or facilitate quicker discharges to appropriate levels of community based care and will communicate and consult to both internal and external health care providers, and make recommendations for disposition.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral degree in Psychology or Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling or Social Work. Previous crisis assessment and/or hospital based treatment provision strongly preferred. One year of post graduate related experience required.

Clinical License Requirements: Must hold one of the following credentials: LMSW, LCSW, LMFTA, LMFT, LPCA, LPC or licensed or license-eligible Psychologist in the State of Connecticut.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides services in emergency department settings, and demonstrates ability to function in a fast paced environment with an ever changing patient population.

Conducts program specific screening and evaluation, and formulates diagnosis in accordance with the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM). Develops and documents, clear clinical formulations, crisis and care plans that are individualized and measurable, developed in collaboration with the client/family, health care providers, hospital staff, and others as relevant.

Demonstrates knowledge of psychopathology, crisis theory and other behavioral health concerns and primary modalities of psychotherapeutic intervention. Triages clinical emergencies and implements program specific safety and consultation protocols. Utilizes best practices and evidenced based practice models where appropriate and adheres to model and program expectations.

Demonstrates flexibility in schedule which may require weekend, evening, on-call and holiday coverage on a rotating basis as required by to meet contractor coverage expectations.

Demonstrates knowledge of internal and external levels of care, referral processes and resources. Makes clinically appropriate referrals for identified service needs in a timely manner.

Obtains pre-certifications through insurance companies as necessary to obtain care for patient.

Communicates in a positive, effective manner with patients, family members, providers, hospital staff and other key stakeholders. Attends any required meetings.

Meets standards of care and outcome measures as defined by contractors. Demonstrates knowledge of program/department/facility/agency goals and target outcomes, and adheres to practice standards and to data collection and reporting protocols.

Documents all client related information in compliance with agency and/or facility policy and contractor requirements.

Attends and is prepared for scheduled supervision. Seeks additional supervision or consultation as needed and follows through with supervisory directives.

Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
