The certified athletic trainer (ATC) is responsible to provide direct patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team at the hospital and/or outpatient care centers as assigned and is supervised by a licensed physical therapist, physical therapist assistant and/or physician. Demonstrates competency in providing services specializing in athletic injuries and general rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders. Provides clinical care activities utilizing value and evidenced based care to ensure a quality culture, and to satisfy customer needs. Receives clinical peer review by the Sports Rehabilitation Program, PT Clinical Coordinator.


  1. Demonstrates clinical competency in the treatment and care of patients with orthopedic and musculoskeletal disorders, both in the rehabilitation and physician clinics, to promote optimal outcomes

  2. Exhibits competence in the identification, assessment, first aid/ care, and follow up of on-field and sports related injuries to promote timely and effective continuum of care for athletes

  3. Completes accurate and timely documentation of services to best reflect the patient's status and needs, supports revenue cycle and facilitates communication

  4. Develops and/or implements clinical and educational activities which improve or expand athletic training services and injury prevention within the hospital system and/or community

  5. Accountable to keep sports rehabilitation equipment and supplies in a state of readiness to insure an appropriate and safe environment for patients

  6. Accountable for own decisions impacting access to care for patients, to positively impact the department’s financial performance

  7. Provides education and mentoring for students, interns, residents, observers, volunteers and/or new staff to support their development

  8. May provide coverage for pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the direction of the supervising physician(s)


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited professional athletic training education program

  • 2 years’ experience/college experience in ATC would qualify

  • Licensed to practice as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Florida

  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA)/ Board of Certification
