This position exists to develop, implement, monitor and maintain the State safety, occupational health and industrial hygiene programs; manage the Agency’s Workers’ Compensation Program; and provide staff training on a variety of safety & health topics. This position will provide professional assistance to the Department of Military Affairs so that this agency fully meets all required rules and regulations pertaining to safety & occupational health and the State of MN Workers’ Compensation Program. Work is performed with considerable independence subject to review by head of the agency.

Minimum Qualifications

· Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.

· Knowledge of the organization of the Department of Military Affairs and its rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of applicable fire safety rules.

· Knowledge of and ability to conduct ergonomic assessments.

· Extensive written and verbal communication skills.

· Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, personnel rules and administrative procedures.

· Excellent human relation skills.

· Ability to develop and present training classes effectively.

· Knowledge of the department of Health, Fire Marshal’s Office standards and the ability to see that they are met and documented

· Possession of a Minnesota Drivers license – some travel required.

Must pass a complete a background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

· 1 year or more direct experience as a safety and health officer.

Physical Requirements

Ability to crawl kneel and stoop to perform necessary safety inspections and conduct training in confined spaces and other safety related job aspects.
