Post Bachelor Research Assistant - Level 5 / GIS Specialist Job Locations US-MN-St. Paul ID 2025-2680 Category Research Type Full Time Overview Appointment Type: Full-Time Location: St Paul, Minnesota *Salary Range: $67,808 - $88,608 The Post-Bachelor's Research Assistant level 5 will be performing scientific, technical and research services in support of research by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station, Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program in the area of project management, geographic information systems, geospatial data modeling, and scientific visualization. Responsibilities The Post-Bachelor's Research Assistant will work under the direction of James Garner, Ecologist for the Digital Engagement team of the Northern Research Station's FIA Program at the St. Paul, MN Field Office to support research in pursuit of the following scientific and technical objectives: Support the Digital Engagement Group with website and web application design and maintenance, tabular and geospatial data management and hosting, and GIS analysis and map design. Collaborate with FIA staff to assist in the development of research reports, dashboards, and web applications in support of FIA scientists, analysts, staff, and management. Qualifications Requirements: * The employee shall have a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience. * Possess the demonstrated capability to learn diverse software technologies as deemed appropriate by the USDA advisor. * Minimally, must have a working knowledge of ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and HTML, as well as familiarity with Python, SQL, CSS, and JavaScript. * Demonstrated understanding of GIS, web GIS, cartography, data visualization, and web design. The employee must acquire and maintain a LincPass to access Forest Service property. * The employee must complete regular training on safety, security and other matters as outlined and mandated by the Department of Agriculture and the USDA Forest Service. *The candidate's starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate's qualifications to determine salary.
