Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $89,000.00 - $105,000.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)

Reporting directly to the Digital Strategy Leader of Innovation, this position is responsible for designing experiments, conducting customer research, synthesizing results, and providing recommendations to business leaders across the organization.

In addition, this position will play a key role in identifying and prioritizing assumptions, selecting experiment methods, and defining success metrics for internal innovation engagements. This individual will work under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment. Must be highly skilled and have proficient knowledge of customer research principles, methodologies and tools, experience with research and analytics tools and ability to solve complex customer problems through design thinking and validated learning activities.

About This Job

The main purpose of this position is to help teams forge a path to the commercial truth for new digital products and services being considered by Commerce Bank.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with team leadership to define and manage the experiment roadmap for innovation engagements

  • Partner with business leaders to identify and prioritize the riskiest assumptions about new products and services during the pre-project discovery phase

  • Design experiments and quantifiable success metrics to test and validate assumptions within a fast-paced and constrained environment

  • Conduct customer interviews, facilitate focus groups, and create surveys to obtain meaningful customer insights and signals

  • Share the story of innovation engagements by creating compelling, data-driven recommendations to stakeholders

  • Facilitate research handoffs and define next steps with UX research and UX design partners

  • Create a suite of repeatable experiment methods for use in future innovation engagements

  • Partner with Legal and Compliance for experiment approvals and risk mitigation

  • Utilize digital experience and analytics tools to identify areas of friction, run A/B tests, and quantify the impact of changes to the customer experience

  • Facilitate ideation, concept generation and concept evaluation activities using Design Thinking principles

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Adept knowledge of user experience research, validated learning and product management

  • Ability to manage large groups of influential stakeholders by ensuring customer data guides each design decision

  • Comfort with ambiguity for customer signals throughout early experimentation

  • Ability to balance the qualitative and quantitative insights and ensure signals are clear and actionable

  • Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with adept verbal and written communication skills, including ability to discuss controversial subjects with all levels and areas of the organization requiring tact and a commitment to finding common ground

  • Proven ability to lead projects forward and ability to effectively communicate progress and/or barriers to stakeholders and offer issue mitigation strategies

  • Ability to not only track and compile KPI data, but ability to prepare graphical and narrative explanation of key trends and pertinent information

  • Ability to successfully collaborate in a matrixed organization across departments and teams

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload based on management direction

  • Excellent independent reasoning and sound judgment

  • Demonstrated ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of peers and/or management

  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Graduate degree preferred in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, Cognitive Science or related field preferred.

  • 6+ years of research experience with expertise in a wide range of both qualitative and quantitative methods required

  • 3+ years of Web and/or Mobile platform/product experience required

  • 3+ years of experience with digital experience analytics tools (e.g. Contentsquare, Google Analytics, Qualtrics, etc.) and/or A/B and multivariate experiment tools (Adobe Target, Optimizely) preferred

  • 3+ years of financial services experience preferred

  • 3+ years experience managing and coordinating relationships with internal business partners preferred

  • Experience with utilizing online research platforms (e.g. UserTesting, UserZoom, etc.) preferred

  • Experience working in a startup environment preferred

This compensation range is for the Experiment Designer, Innovation job and contemplates a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to location, skill sets, education, relevant experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable differentials (geographic, bilingual, or shift) that could be associated with the position or where it is filled. At Commerce, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay is $89,000 to $105,000 annually. This position will be eligible for additional compensation through performance-based incentive plan(s) that will correspond to meeting performance goals.
