Ameren Senior Finance and Compliance Analyst, HR Benefits in St. Louis, Missouri

About the Position:

Responsible for leading complex financial analysis, benchmarking, compliance, and analytics toward the financing and management of employee benefit plans. This highly visible role will need to establish strong working relationships within Benefits and HR to effectively deliver on objectives. The Finance & Compliance Benefits Analyst will also serve in an advisory capacity for internal (e.g., HR, IT, Finance, Audit, Legal) and external (vendor) partners, to maintain high standards on all benefit-related work streams. The role is also responsible for conducting ad hoc reporting and data analysis and assisting management in planning, developing, piloting and redesigning company benefits programs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and/or lead cost modelling of benefit changes to help maintain affordability.

  • Research and maintain complex financial data, dashboards, metrics and information to provide analytics for accounting, budgeting and financial design for benefit plan funding.

  • Ensure compliance activities, including SOX, government reporting, IRS, DOL, ERISA and audit requirements, including benefit plan financial statements and 5500s.

  • Design and communicate complex financial and cost concepts and information to managers and staff, as well as keeping leaders and teams informed of project status.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on teams (or lead teams) that require financial and/or data analytics with regard to Ameren's benefit plans, including benefit design changes and vendor analysis in RFP.

  • Provide insights and analysis regarding benefit plan analytics to leadership and to staff.

  • Monitor trends and partner with peers to recommend benefit design changes to achieve strategic objectives.

  • Partner closely with Finance, Legal, Labor and others, to provide expertise on all aspects of benefit planning, modeling and rate case support.

  • Communicate complex concepts and information to leaders and co-workers, verbally and in written communications.

  • Conduct benchmarking and trend analysis that help management to make decision related to benefits

  • Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert regarding financial functions and processes.

  • Mentor less-experienced Benefit team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required.

  • Degree majoring in Accounting, Economics, Actuarial Science or related discipline preferred.

  • 7 or more years of progressive experience in employee benefits design or delivery, auditing, accounting or a related area required, along with demonstrated complex project management required.

  • CPA or minor in accounting or finance preferred.

  • Experience with employee benefit education or change strategies preferred.

  • Able to manipulate data and provide analysis in an accurate and clear way, and present information meaningfully to varying audiences.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner

  • Excellent analytical skills; ability to analyze and interpret data

  • Excellent presentation skills

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Solid knowledge of benefit plan regulatory requirements, including knowledge of self-funded arrangements and benefit trusts.

  • Ability to think strategically; creative problem solver who constantly reviews industry trends and products.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Effective leadership skills/qualities.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and HRIS systems.

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to employee benefits.

Additional Information

The Sr. Financial & Compliance Benefit Analyst works a hybrid schedule flexing time between a home and office environment.

Ameren’s selection process includes a series of interviews and may include a leadership assessment process. Specific details will be provided to qualified candidates.
