Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Neuroscience. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Dr. Yao Chen’s Laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience at Washington University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated individual for a research technician position. Our laboratory conducts basic research to understand how dynamics of molecular signals contribute to neuromodulator actions and sleep functions. We employ a wide variety of techniques ex vivo and in vivo, including advanced microscopy, electrophysiology, molecular biology, and behavior analysis. The principal investigator is committed to mentoring. This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. For additional information see: https://sites.wustl.edu/yaochenlab/. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including microscopy, small animal procedures, collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. 2. Performs data collection and entry and maintains data files on research. 3. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 4. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures 5. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Eagerness to learn. * Good time management skills. * Strong sense of responsibility. * Attention to detail. * Comfort with math and complex equipment. * Good communication skills. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
