Compensation Range
Annual Salary: $131,500.00 - $157,000.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)
About This Job
The main purpose of this job is to manage and set strategy for the Enterprise Risk Management team, including, in collaboration with the Chief Risk Officer, designing and maintaining the enterprise risk management framework for the company. The Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk will interface with all levels of management and will oversee the continuous improvement of the Bank’s enterprise risk management program. The Senior Manager, Enterprise Risk will provide strategic thought leadership and guidance through engagement with stakeholders across the three lines of defense. Strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively are vital for success in this role.
Essential Functions
Develop corrective action plans in response to audit, regulatory, and self-identified issues
Lead, mentor, and motivate team members to implement the department strategy and be responsible for upholding the company culture and driving it within the organization
Communicate decisions, priorities, and relevant information to appropriate levels of staff effectively
Oversee budget management, planning and expenditure
Responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, monitor, and report the company's enterprise strategic risk. Develop Enterprise Risk Management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to an enterprise risk management framework.
Serve as a subject matter expert, set strategy, and provide direction and day-to-day support to various business units related to enterprise risk management (ERM). Responsible for providing expert guidance, credible challenge, and effective oversight of respective risk to first line partners and their activities where warranted.
Manage all components of the Enterprise Risk Management program, including policy management program, risk committee management, committee charter reviews, enterprise risk assessments, key risk indicators, risk reporting, risk and control framework, governance structure, ERM advisory services, coordination with strategic planning office, implementation and enhancement of ERM modules within governance, risk, and compliance tool, and implementation of improvement plans as needed
Maintain a strong technical understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and applicable regulatory guidance
Lead efforts, and work with key stakeholders, to prepare agendas, materials, support users, manage meetings, and prepare reporting for risk committees. Present quarterly to various risk committees and senior and executive management.
Monitor emerging risks, reviews key performance indicators/metrics, and industry trends to proactively identify and report on potential threats to the organization
Manage regulatory examinations and maintain strong relationships with supervisory regulators
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Advanced knowledge of risk management-related financial institution regulations and guidance
Ability to take on increasing levels of responsibility, including developing and executing on strategies to enhance the enterprise risk management program
Ability to understand complex processes, systems, and data flows
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to apply discretion and sound judgement to efficiently and effectively solve problems
Ability to drive results and balance management of organizational risk and meeting goals of the business
Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate team members and foster a positive team environment that gives way to collaboration and unified goals
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the company, clearly expressing ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing
Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
Advanced proficiency in a variety of standard and risk reporting software tools including Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, PowerBI, and experience with Governance, Risk & Compliance systems/software
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Degree in Law preferred.
8+ years of practical experience as a risk professional, compliance officer, auditor or attorney required
4+ years management experience required
Broad risk management experience in a financial institution setting preferred
Experience with Agile methodologies preferred
Certified Enterprise Risk Professional (CERP) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation preferred

At Commerce, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay is $131,500 to $157,000 annually. This position will be eligible for additional compensation through performance-based incentive plan(s) that will correspond to meeting performance goals.
