Centene Corporation Intern (Home State Health - Health Plan Program Manager - Graduate - Summer 2022) in St. Louis, Missouri

The intern will manage programs for our MO health plan related to Medicaid, Medicare and Behaviorial Health by working with the provider community, advocacy groups, regulators and members to improve quality and overall healthcare outcomes. Support cross-functional teams including; Government Relations, Health Policy, Compliance, Network Development, Medical Management and Finance.

Potential projects include and are subject to change based on plan initiatives and needs and intern interests at the start of the internship program:

  • Review and analysis of potential legislation impacting the Medicaid population coverage, benefits, or eligibility.

  • Analysis of medical cost trends and development and analysis of potential care management programs.

  • Participation in programs to address social determinants of health such as coordination of housing resources to address homelessness for members with chronic conditions.

  • Participation in network growth strategy to boost Medicare or Marketplace market share. This could include the development of a value-based arrangement for a key hospital system of provider group.

  • Health plan innovation project: Telehealth, texting members, incentive programs, marketing and outreach activities, new clinical programs.

  • Analyze health plan staffing model to determine areas where efficiencies can be gained by measuring productivity improvement. This could be through changes in process or training.

  • Review of outside vendors to identify improvement in services or opportunities to lower costs.

  • Participate in discussions with Medicaid advocates, charitable organizations, providers, elected officials, or government regulators.

  • Participate in the implementation of public policy; including changes to provider reimbursement, changes to coverage for Medicaid members, expansion of the Medicaid population.

  • Review of employee engagement and development of potential programs to improve employee satisfaction, development, and growth potential.

  • Participation in third-party or internal audits to determine potential areas of improvement.

Learn about various processes and functions within the Managed Care industry and develop professionally by contributing to projects that support the business.

Experience/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree. Must be enrolled in a graduate program, preferably an MBA program at an accredited university or college in a field related to the hiring department through the internship period.
