NewGround Human Resources & Payroll Specialist in St. Louis, Missouri

Job Description:

NewGround, a world-class design and build firm headquartered in St. Louis and with offices across North America, is looking for a Human Resources & Payroll Specialist in our St. Louis office on a hybrid (minimum 2-3 days) on-site basis, that will assist with a broad range of human resources functions, including full responsibility for payroll processing and data maintenance, execution of HR policies and initiatives, and assisting with benefits administration. The individual in this role will play a critical part in advancing organizational goals through effective human resources management, fostering a positive work environment, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. The Human Resources & Payroll Specialist will report directly to the Director of Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Human Resources in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for biweekly payroll processing, including taxes, benefits deductions, and payroll data maintenance to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.

  • Assist with employee benefits administration, including enrollment processes, answering employee queries, and liaising with the benefits broker.

  • Assist in managing the performance appraisal process.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable labor and payroll regulations and maintain accurate HR and payroll records.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned or as needed.

  • Proficiency in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and payroll software.

  • Comprehensive understanding of labor laws, human resources, and payroll best practices.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

  • Effective time management and prioritization abilities.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Expectations

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Provide expert advice and support on HR policies, procedures, and payroll to staff and management.

  • Drive continuous improvement in HR and payroll processes and initiatives.

  • Keep up to date on industry trends and best practices in human resources and payroll management.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Human Resources in strategic planning and execution of HR and payroll objectives.

  • Must handle confidential matters and information with discretion.

  • Able to handle multiple tasks while maintaining high attention to detail.

  • May involve travel to other company sites or locations for meetings, training, or employee engagement activities.

Education And Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of human resources experience, with a significant focus on payroll responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated experience with payroll processing and systems.

  • Experience with international or Canadian payroll is preferred but not required.

  • Experience with UKG Ready HRIS is highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of HR metrics and data analysis for decision-making.
