Assistant Prosecuting Attorney (Appellate)

  • $76,228 - 123,600/ Year
  • Salary Commensurate with Experience

Duties:

  • Under general supervision of the county's Prosecuting Attorney and using a considerable degree of independent judgment, handles appellate and post-conviction matters on behalf of the People of the State of Michigan.
  • Conducts research and prepares legal briefs and other pleadings for submission to trial courts, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court.
  • Reviews and responds to incoming pleadings in criminal appellate and post-conviction matters.
  • Represents the People in oral argument in trial courts, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court.
  • Assists trial prosecutors through research assistance, legal training, and updates on relevant developments in the law.
  • Maintains organized legal files in appellate and post-conviction cases.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Starting salary will be commensurate with experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
  • If awaiting bar results, applicant may be hired in pending passage of bar exam.
