Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Infrastructure Team provides planning, design and construction administration services for roadway, highway, transit/rail, bridge, municipal and related projects. We are currently seeking a self-motivated Construction Site Inspector to conduct fieldwork to complement our civil team.

The Construction Site Inspector will work under close supervision of a Contract Administrator to develop skills in civil works related to civil design construction, on-site field review and inspections and contract documents. The ideal candidate can solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation including effective coordination of internal and external constituents, demonstrated experience on various construction projects, effective meeting facilitation skills and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements.

As a Construction Site Inspector, you will be responsible for assisting project managers, project engineers and construction administrators in the following areas:

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Providing on-site resident inspection services for the construction of new water, storm, wastewater linear infrastructure, road construction and general site development work.

  • Clarification of drawings and specifications based upon direction provided by the Stantec project manager.

  • Review of shop drawings for compliance with construction contract documents to verify percent completion for price unit contracts

  • Chairing construction meetings and preparing minutes.

  • Preparing construction progress reports.

  • Review of contractor invoices and preparation of monthly progress claims for submission to project owner.

  • Assist with issuance of field instructions, change orders and other construction administrative documentation.

  • Review of contractor pricing associated with change orders.

  • Review of red line mark-up drawings provided by the contractor.

  • Complete periodic field survey checks to ensure the contractor is installing infrastructure in the correct location.

  • Assist with preparation and review of project record drawings.

  • Witnessing and documenting performance verification tests and monitoring contractor commissioning activities.

  • Liaise with the project owner as Stantec’s representative on the project.

  • Cross-train with Stantec’s geotechnical materials group, when required to potentially complete periodic materials inspections. Other duties required to fulfill Stantec’s role on this project.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience providing resident inspection and construction administration services for roadway and municipal construction projects in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

  • Demonstrated skill with MS Office is desired.

  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills are required as is an ability to work independently within the bounds of direction provided by the project manager.

  • A valid driver’s license and your own vehicle are required for this position.

  • Travel to remote construction sites will be required. There may also be opportunities for travel within Atlantic Canada to support Stantec’s civil construction projects.

  • Position will be full-time employment and is based in one of our Atlantic Canadian locations (Fredericton, NB, Moncton, NB, Dartmouth, NS or St. John’s, NL).

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience is preferred in the fields of municipal infrastructure.
