This Onsite Desktop Support Engineer job is an exciting onsite position based in St Ives Cambridgeshire working 5 days a week onsite, (with a min of 4 days in the office, 5 days is strongly preferred), to give a talent the job to learn and develop an IT career. Job location - Linx Office at Saint Ives in Cambridgeshire

Role Summary

We are currently seeking a talented Onsite Desktop Support Engineer who will be responsible for the maintenance of the IT Service Desk; resolving issues, fixing faults, documenting calls, prioritizing as required, and escalating necessary calls to third line, to ultimately oversee the successful and expedient resolution of all calls. The Onsite Desktop Support Engineer will have excellent interpersonal skills and an organized approach, with the ability to adapt and respond to ad-hoc queries in a timely manner.

As an End User Support Analyst, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Onsite and remotely test computers and peripherals to diagnose hardware and software problems. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain computer equipment (e.g. laptops and peripherals). Work with hardware vendors to resolve equipment failures/problems. Build and deploy new laptops

  • Assist in the maintenance of current infrastructure, servers, networks. Provide additional technical support for the network/server environment. Test applications for environmental compatibility; maintain and update systems (software deployment). Administer user accounts

  • Monitor and manage calls assigned to you on the service desk, working through to resolution. Develop and test user documentation; follow all IT related documentation and processes; maintain accurate and up to date records, ensuring compliance with the company’s procedures

  • Possessing strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills to effectively diagnose and resolve laptop/network issues, either independently or by escalating to appropriate technical resources.

  • Serving as a representative for the service desk, effectively communicating and resolving problems and requests, while also initiating necessary actions.

  • Pro-actively taking ownership of a wide variety of calls and problems

  • Ensuring all calls are dealt with efficiently and promptly in accordance with the Service Level Agreement

  • Participate in office moves ensuring IT equipment is moved safely and re-commissioned as required by the business,

  • Help to manage the on-site inventory of IT equipment and spares, making sure necessary asset and configuration records are updated and maintained.

  • Manage hardware throughout its lifecycle: acquisition, deployment, maintenance, disposal.

  • Manage the End-of-Life process for assets, facilitating hardware refresh cycles and oversee proper disposal of old equipment.

  • Collaborate with IT, procurement, and legal teams.

  • You will be logging and categorizing customer interactions concisely and efficiently, while taking ownership and following these up to completion.

We are looking for a professional who is:

  • 2-4 year’s experience in an SLA driven, ticketed Service Desk or 1st / 2nd Line role

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience of applying processes and procedures

  • Experience of building and maintaining excellent relationships with customers

  • IT troubleshooting skills

  • Delivering a consistent first-class service to customer

  • Experience of working in a user support role

  • Awareness of ITIL processes and functions,

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Strong personal organizational skills.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to multi- task and prioritize workload

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.

  • Flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to change.

  • Open to work from St Ives, Cambridgeshire office, 5 days a week (On site)

  • Flexible working hours approx. 1 weekend per quarter, depending on the need of the business ( time of in lieu)

Must Have:

  • Previous experience in a 1st Line Support / Service Desk or similar type role

  • Windows Operating Systems

  • Active Directory

  • Office 365 (Teams/SharePoint/Exchange)

  • Experience of any of the following would be beneficial - AD/InTune/Crowdstrike/SCCM

  • Driving License

  • Valid work permit or British citizenship (for this job we are unable to support on relocation nor sponsorship, nor in the future if extension of visa would be required

Your Education and/or Background Experience will include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, etc. or any other equivalent educational qualifications desirable

  • English language spoken and written fluency required; second language proficiency preferred ( French). Keen attention to detail; solid organizational and time management skills.

  • Individual should be open to feedback and should come with a positive mindset

  • Strong analytical skills, problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
