CITY OF ST GEORGE SunTran Transit Operator I, II, or III in ST GEORGE, Utah
Position Summary
Operates City of St. George transit vehicles of various sizes in a safe manner over assigned routes according
to established time schedules, while maintaining order in the vehicle and providing courteous service.

SunTran Transit Operator I
- Operates transit buses of various sizes over assigned routes in accordance with specific manifest
instructions, and provides safe, secure, and comfortable services to users of the transit system in
accordance with division standard operating procedures. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
a. Collects appropriate customer fares, ensures the comfort of passengers, maintains order among
customers, and handles volatile situations according to standard operating procedures.
b. Promotes positive passenger relations by announcing bus stops, assisting customers with fare and
routing information, explaining established passenger policies and procedures, providing directions
to customers, and communicating with special needs customers according to parameters.
c. Files special incident reports, completes daily reports, performs daily inspections of vehicles,
reports any vehicle operational or maintenance problems to the dispatcher or supervisor in a timely
manner, and completes other reports as required.
d. Assures that transit vehicles are operated in accordance with established customer schedules.
e. Operates a two-way radio in a safe manner.
Cooperates with the investigation of any customer complaints.
Attends and successfully completes all transit training as scheduled by the supervisor.
Assists with the collection of data for the planning/scheduling of transit services.
Assists with conducting outreach activities of the division.
Assists with vehicle cleaning and daily maintenance of interior and exterior of bus.
May be assigned to assist with other activities needed to run the division such as clerical tasks,
answering telephones, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required.
SunTran Transit Operator II
- Operates transit buses of various sizes over assigned routes in accordance with specific manifest
instructions, and provides safe, secure, and comfortable services to users of the transit system in
accordance with division standard operating procedures. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Performs daily pre-inspection and post-inspection of buses in order to ensure maximum safety
in operation of the vehicle, communicates both verbally and in writing about safety concerns to
supervisor and the fleet maintenance department.
- Collects appropriate customer fares, ensures the comfort of passengers, maintains order
among customers, and handles volatile situations according to standard operating procedures.
- Promotes positive passenger relations by announcing bus stops, assisting customers with fare
and routing information, explaining established passenger policies and procedures, providing
directions to customers, and communicating with special needs customers according to parameters.
Files special incident reports, completes daily reports, and completes other reports as required.
Operates transit vehicles in accordance with established customer schedules whenever
possible.
- Maintains a high standard of customer service, two-way radio communication, and
appearance.

answer questions and provide clarification of policies and procedures when warranted and
appropriate.
Assists with vehicle cleaning and daily maintenance of interior and exterior of bus.
May be assigned to assist with other activities needed to run the division such as clerical tasks,
answering telephones, etc.
Performs other related duties as required.
SunTran Transit Operator III
- Operates transit buses of various sizes over assigned routes in accordance with specific manifest
instructions, and provides safe, secure, and comfortable services to users of the transit system in
accordance with division standard operating procedures. Tasks include, but are not limited to:

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Constant exposure to stress as a result of human behavior. This position functions within a transit vehicle
and in a transit operations environment. The Operator is required to get in and out of the driver's seat
frequently and to exit the vehicle to ensure safe operations and to assist passengers. There are periods of
extended sitting, exposure to weather conditions, frequent noise, fumes, odors, and dusts. The job involves
bending/stooping, crouching, kneeling, and frequent reaching above shoulder and climbing into and out of a
bus, and f requent pass punching and fine motor skills associated with bus operations and fare collections.
Must be able to push or pull up to 40 lbs. to exert pressure on straps to secure wheel chairs and other
mobility devices and have the ability to lift and carry up to five pounds for brochures and cushions; and
push/pull up to 10 pounds to operate the steering wheel, door, and gear sh
