Fantastic work life balance offered
Greenside Vet Practice is based in St Boswells in the stunning Scottish Borders, which is only 45 minutes from Edinburgh; all the access but without the price tag for property and with a wealth of outdoor pursuits on your door step. We are seeking an enthusiastic, friendly all rounder, preferably with experience, but definitely with good communication skills to join our mixed practice team. This is a very rare opportunity for a vet to join our super friendly, family feel practice where we pride ourselves on providing a good work: life balance along with lots of on the job support for our colleagues.
We are a mixed practice with a solid farm base and an ever expanding companion animal component as well as the UK’s leading stem cell, regenerative medicine and rehabilitation clinic which accepts referral cases from all over the UK.
A purpose built large animal unit as well as a referral unit has recently been completed and includes a hydrotherapy treadmill and qualified veterinary physiotherapists in their team. The farm team is lead by a DBR holder and the work is mainly beef and sheep with one dairy. The small animal team is supported by 8 qualified RVN. Appointment times are 15/20minutes per consult and a work car will be provided.
The role is 40hrs per week; no routine weekend clinics and the work is split between first opinion small animal and farm. The role will involve farm visits, small animal consulting and routine surgery; time is also allocated for lab result reporting and client phone calls during the work day. There is a requirement for each vet to do an evening surgery and branch practice clinic once a week.
We provide our own OOH cover but the phone lines are diverted to an answering service. The rota for this is 1:5 with time back in lieu. A qualified nurse is always on call to support you.
In lieu of on call we provide a half day once a week and a Friday off the weekend after being on-call.
CPD is funded and further qualifications are encouraged and supported.
A generous salary (£35,000- £55,000 dependant on experience)
A relocation package worth up to £4000
34 days per year + a birthday leave day
CPD: Certificate support scheme
A Cycle2Work scheme
RCVS fee and a subscription paid (e.g: BVA, BCVA, BSAVA )
Employee Assistance Programme with BUPA
We are happy to be part of Linnaeus Group with almost 180 sites across the UK and Ireland we are part of a growing community of like-minded veterinary professionals who are passionate about what they do. Linnaeus Group is proud to be a part of the Mars Veterinary Health family of veterinary practices which extends our network of 2,500 veterinary clinics and hospitals in over 20 countries making industry-leading pet care available to more than 25 million pets every year.
Greenside Veterinary Practice has stood for generations at the heart of the local community, providing professional veterinary services to the Scottish Borders.
We have an experienced team of seven veterinary surgeons, all with specialised interests, working along with registered nurses and support staff to ensure the highest possible quality of care for your animal.
The first practice in St. Boswells was opened in 1990 by Bob Connachie in a house which once stood next to the Main Street Trading bookshop.
In 2007 the practice moved to its present site at Greenside Farm and was carefully designed to provide state of the art facilities.
Neil Cameron and Andrew Armitage are the co-owners and are determined to remain at the heart of the local community while striving to offer the highest possible standards of care to our clients and their animals.
Greenside Vets are not part of a large multi practice corporate group. The vets are only answerable to their clients, not shareholders. They are not restricted with regards drug choice when discussing with owners the most appropriate treatment for their animals.
A branch surgery in Jedburgh also operates alongside the main surgery in St. Boswells.
