Description

This full-time, 12-month position will provide individual and group counseling sessions; educational seminars; consultation and referral services to the student body of St. Bonaventure University. This position is expected to work within a multidisciplinary team to address mental health conditions and related issues within a holistic manner.

*This position may fill the role of Clinical Coordinator and receive a stipend for additional responsibilities.

Provide individual and group counseling, crisis management, and case management/care coordination to the student body

Provide educational workshops, advocacy, and information regarding mental/emotional health and wellness issues15%

Participate in the after-hours counselor on-call schedule10%

Maintain appropriate clinical documentation in the Electronic Health Record system5%

Other administrative duties (i.e., meetings, committees, consultation)5%

Supplemental Functions:

Participate in weekly supervision with counseling center staff

Uphold standards and ethical guidelines of the counseling profession, to include timely submission of clinical documentation

Serve on University and division committees as deemed appropriate

Collaborate with and provide consultation to other departments/offices (i.e., faculty and staff)

Other duties assigned as needed

Typical Qualifications

Required: Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.

An active New York State license or limited permit in mental health counseling, clinical social work, or psychology.

Preferred: Prior counseling experience with the college student population.

Skilled in providing educational programs to a variety of participants (i.e., college students, faculty, staff, parents, etc.).

Crisis intervention and management skills or after-hours response experience.

Years of Experience – (required or preferred number of years and in which specific areas)

Must have completed a clinical internship (600 total hours/240 direct hours) and at least one year of mental health/clinical counseling experience

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the minimum qualifications to fill the role of Clinical Coordinator, which includes at least 3 years’ experience post-licensure.

Certification and/or Licensure

Licensure (or license eligible) as a Mental Health Counselor, Social Worker, or Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of New York

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Master’s level knowledge base of counseling theories, skills, and industry trends.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the special considerations and challenges faced by college students

  • Demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with individuals from diverse social, economic, academic, and cultural backgrounds

  • Knowledge and clear understanding of HIPAA and FERPA guidelines

  • Ability to exercise and apply sound judgment and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of data.

  • Skilled in the use of electronic medical record systems.

  • Ability to speak to groups of students, faculty, staff, and parents on topics related mental health and wellness.

  • Demonstrate commitment to treating undergraduate and graduate students from a holistic perspective.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Express timely and accurate communication with administration, faculty, students and community members.

  • Ability to shift quickly between several tasks without loss of continuity, while balancing priorities to accomplish assigned tasks within the required time frame.

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external constituents. Ability to accept supervision, assignments, change, and correction.

  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software and the ability to stay current with emerging office and electronic health record (EHR) software programs.

  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as part of a team.

  • Engage in meaningful and intentional professional development appropriate for areas of responsibility.

  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with all staff and other customers while fostering positive working relationships.

  • Network with local providers, including but not limited to other therapists and the staff at Olean General Hospital’s behavioral health unit.

  • Adhere to ethical guidelines set by the counseling profession, as well as the governing documents, policies and procedures established by St. Bonaventure University.

Working Conditions / Physical requirements

  • Physically able to remain seated, frequently and continuously

  • Physically able to lift, push and pull various materials up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

  • Physically able to remain standing occasionally for short periods

  • Climb at least four flights of stairs

  • Able to perform rescue functions to assist students in cases of accidents, emergencies, and disasters to include arranging for emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging, and carrying people away from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from particular areas.

  • Able to extinguish small fires by using a fire extinguisher and other appropriate means.

  • Possesses dexterity abilities required to operate a computer and other office equipment.
