Rate Classification: Grade 4 - $29.40 per hour, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement

Position Summary:

Washington Gas has three additional vacancies for Corrosion Control Testers! The Corrosion Control Tester is responsible for conducting basic level monitor and remedial surveys to comply with DOT 192 Subpart I requirements for corrosion control. This role involves assisting higher-grade Corrosion Control employees in troubleshooting and proposing remedial actions to restore cathodic protection levels to company facilities. Additional duties include providing locating services, performing construction activities related to corrosion control, assisting with gas emergency response, and conducting activities in connection with drip surveys and water outages.

Corrosion Control Testers must also safely operate company vehicles within our service territory. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

You Will:

  • Conduct basic corrosion surveys to evaluate, obtain, and restore cathodic protection levels on company facilities.

  • Assist higher-grade employees in performing remedial corrosion surveys.

  • Identify atmospheric corrosion and other anomalies of concern (AOCs).

  • Assist in performing activities related to drip surveys and inspections.

  • Locate and mark underground gas facilities as required.

  • Assist with gas emergencies.

  • Mentor and help train other Corrosion Control Testers.

  • Perform minor maintenance on company facilities such as meter build-ups, conduits, test wires, and test/drip boxes. This includes tasks like chipping out paved-over test stations, using hand tools to clean out test stations or remove debris, replacing wire nuts or repairing wire connections, and installing 1 lb. “spike-style” anodes on meter risers.

  • Produce hard copy and electronic files of records and documents.

  • Operate traffic control vehicles and use traffic control devices as needed.

  • Communicate professionally as a company representative with homeowners regarding the nature of the work and respond to questions from inquisitive residents.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You Have:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Skills: Basic computer skills, basic drawing, and map reading skills.

  • Certifications: Must complete and pass all prerequisites, including but not limited to:

  • ACT WorkKeys before an interview (coordinated by Washington Gas).

  • Corrosion Control Tester Qualification School upon hire.

  • All required Operation Qualification exams upon hire.

  • All review schools and field clearances upon hire.

  • Progression: Must qualify for Corrosion Control Technician I within 30 months of accepting a Corrosion Control Tester position.

  • Licenses/Certifications: A valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required.

Shift Work: As required.

Use of Personal Vehicle: As required.

Additional Requirement: CDL holders are subject to testing under Federal Highway Regulations.
