Provides a variety of technical radiographic procedures including the additional modality of mammography under the direction of a radiologist. Clerical procedures, and other duties will be assigned as directed by the mammography supervisor or department manager. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care by evaluating the patient, verifying patient ID, and related information to assure appropriate procedure is performed; explains procedure to patient; prepares patient for procedure by obtaining and recording patient history and consent form (if applicable); ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedure; monitors condition of patient and medical equipment that may be disturbed due to the nature of exam and report changes to patient care services.
Properly positions equipment to provide projections specified by department protocol; calculates and selects proper technical factors based on information such as age, medical history and suspected pathology; develops radiographs by automatic processing; evaluates mammography films to make certain films are of diagnostic quality and contain proper identification; performs specialized techniques and projections to determine specialized areas of concern; performs quality assurance tests as specified by mammography department protocol, e.g., sensitometry, phantom images, repeat film analysis, screen and darkroom cleanliness, etc.; reviews all mammography reports and keeps patient follow-up records current; provides proper radiation protection for patients, self and others (uses lead aprons, lead gloves, and gonadal shielding when appropriate).
Participates in performance improvement projects; assists department in achieving successful results in all federal, state and local agency audits.
Ensures a state of cleanliness and readiness throughout the work area, assures the physical and emotional wellbeing of the patient while in our care.
Maintains proficiency with all procedures and equipment in the assigned radiology area, performs procedures with efficiency and safety. Maintains technical proficiency in the additional modality of Mammography.
Documents appropriate patient information on requests and supplemental forms. Completes all other required documentation such as routine equipment checks and QA activities, provides other statistics as necessary.
Interacts with department staff, ancillary departments, nursing staff, physicians and patients to ensure an organized and comprehensive implementation of patient care. This includes pre and post exam patient education.
Complies with established hospital policies, procedures, and practices to assure that standards of quality, efficiency and safety are met. Deals fairly, reasonably, considerately and honestly with all others associated with the hospital including employees, patients and visitors.

Required Minimum Education: Vocational/ Technical Degree
Specialty/Major: Radiology Technology or Advanced Imaging
Licensure/Certification Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology; registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT); current license in the state of Ohio; advanced registration by ARRT in mammography or registry eligible with six months of hire; current BLS certification
Licensure/Certification Preferred: Advanced Registry in Quality Management by the ARRT.
