City of Springfield, Ohio Engineering Technician III SALARY $28.00 - $35.75 Hourly LOCATION Springfield, OH JOB TYPE Administrative Position (full-time) JOB NUMBER 2400200 DEPARTMENT Service DIVISION Engineering OPENING DATE 06/26/2024 CLOSING DATE 7/11/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Job Description The Engineering Technician III is a classified position within the Construction Division of the Service Department for theCity of Springfield. The Enginnering Tech. is responsible for the inspection of a variety of both public and private construction projects withinthe City of Springfield to ensure compliance with federal, state and city construction specifications and standards. Work involves performing construction inspection and engineering records maintenance work. Construction inspectionduties are performed under the professional guidance of the Field Supervisor, who supervises employees at this level andapproves payments, resolves problems on more difficult inspections, and issues stop work orders. Work is reviewed by theConstruction Superintendent for the degree to which construction meets plans and specifications. Examples of Duties Reads and interprets construction drawings and quantities for assigned city, state or federal funded projects. Thoroughly interprets detailed sets of plans including typical pavement cross-sections, plans and profiles, cross-sections of embankments and excavation, detail plans, summary sheets, calculations, estimated quantities, and suchstandards as are necessary for the project, i.e., horizontal and vertical alignments, drainage facilities, water and sewersystems, property maps, and right-of-way acquisitions. Uses basic field surveying equipment, such as levels, grade rods, GPS units, and other surveying instruments, toconfirm compliance with construction drawings, identify drainage and alignment problems, and obtain informationused to prepare "as-built" drawings; keeps notes and make required engineering computations. Reviews plans and specifications with supervisor to become familiar with the engineering requirements of plans andspecifications and to become familiar with the quality and quantity of materials specified. Visually inspects all phases of public and private construction in progress on projects, including street, sewer andwater lines, bridges, signalization, street lighting, or other public works projects and programs, to ensure compliancewith plans and specifications Uses work management software and geographic information systems (GIS) in daily work routines. Responds, orally and in writing to complaints, technical problems, or inquiries from other city divisions ordepartments, contractors, utilities, or the general public. Delivers information effectively to the general public, contractors and consultants on water and sewer locations,house numbers, and street and right of wary widths. Performs a variety of office duties, including copying and responding to various information requests. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
