As a School Based Liaison, you'll work with schools and families to initiate services, assist with eligibility screening and benefits verification, conduct assessments, identify resources, and collaborate with community partners to address student and family needs. Our ideal candidate is passionate about supporting students and families, has experience in human services or a related field, and has strong communication and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accept referrals from assigned schools and/or school districts, notifying referral source of receipt of student information and contacting the family within 3 business days.

  • Assist families with Medicaid eligibility screening and application process, if needed.

  • Perform verifications of benefits for families with private insurance as well as any additional screenings for grant funding, if needed.

  • Refer families with Medicaid/Private Insurance/Grant Funding/Self-Pay to the School Based Support Staff for scheduling with Evaluator, School Based Clinician, or appropriate clinic.

  • Conduct a thorough assessment of family strengths, problems and needs, identifying resources both internal and external that address areas of need, including assisting families register for a MyStrengths account.

  • Collaborate with schools and other community agency collaborations to identify programs that address student and family needs and connecting the family to those resources as needed.

  • Exercise discretion and judgment when participating in emergency services in order to provide rapid aid in cases of emotional crisis.

  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of the philosophy, mission and goals of the School Based Services program.

  • Complete all required charting and documentation in a timely manner as per operational guidelines and/or program standards.

  • Functions in accordance with Burrell Behavioral Health Operational Guidelines and within his/her professional code of ethics.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of mental health issues as evidenced by a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work (preferred) or other related human service specialized fields of study, or high school diploma with experience.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of residents, employees of the organization, family members and other contacts in the community.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Must be able to establish effective relationships with clients and the needed network of care via telephone and personal contacts.

  • Must be able to follow direction and accept supervision.

  • Must have excellent knowledge of community resources and the ability to engage community partners effectively in the treatment of clients.

  • Burrell Behavioral Health requires drivers of licensed company vehicles and those using their own vehicles for business purposes have the appropriate driver's license, insurance coverage, and meet the auto liability carrier's driver's criteria.
