As part of this effort, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Object Storage Service team is looking for hands-on, senior engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems, large scale storage, and highly available services. If this is you, you can be part of the team that drives the best in class Object Storage Service into the next phase of its development. An engineer at this level can have significant technical and business impact.

As a technical leader you will own the software design and development for major components and features of the Object Storage Service. You should have deep understanding of the storage systems and issues around scale and performance. You have architected and executed on highly visible and mission critical projects, bringing your technical expertise to bear. You should be both a rock solid coder and a distributed systems generalist, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems, as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Basic Qualifications:

• 8-10+ of years experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.

• Deep knowledge of distributed storage / object storage.

• Thorough understanding of key-value stores, databases, storage and distributed persistence technologies.

• Strong knowledge of C++ (preferred, C acceptable) and experience with scripting languages such as Python, etc.

• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.

• Strong troubleshooting skills

. Strong systems software performance analysis and tuning skills.

• Experience building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure a strong plus

Responsibilities

As a Principal Engineer, you will be one of the key members of the development team. You will own the design and implementation of critical parts of the storage stack. You are expected to be a hands-on coder, who can solve gnarly problems. You should possess the skills to analyze and improve algorithms. Additionally, in this role, you are expected to mentor junior engineers and ensure that the team as a whole is productive, as we drive to aggressive deadlines. You need to be a strong communicator, possessing great verbal and technical writing skills. You will be be expected to produce quality design documents (and code), which stand the test of peer reviews. You will aid the managers and TPMs to come up with cogent schedules, and drive to their execution.

Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

  8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
