Position Title: Sensory Lab Specialist

Reports to: Senior Sensory Manager II

Location: Springdale, AR (Greater NWA) ***Relocation support may be provided for those candidates that qualify based on the Tyson Relocation Policy.

The Sensory Lab Specialist is an exciting, fast-paced role in which you will be responsible for managing one or more of Tyson\'s proprietary sensory methods (Descriptive Analysis, Discrimination or Affective) at Tyson Headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of one or more of Tyson\'s sensory methods. This includes screening, training, and maintaining the panel(s) and assisting in the execution of other sensory lab methods. As lead of Tyson\'s sensory method(s) you will provide clear insight and direction to your sensory and R&D partners from the results that the panel(s) provide. This work will influence important decision-making across the businesses, while concurrently elevating the sensory function and enhancing your personal development goals.

What you\'ll do

  • Lead a Descriptive Analysis (DA), Discrimination (DI), and/or Affective panel; provide sensory scientists with invaluable sensory results on a variety of food products, with streamlined reporting and clear and concise recommendations
  • Screen, train & maintain; then continue to refine and build a proprietary DA/DI/Affective capability, made up of multiple panelists
  • Assist with product preparation, test set up, serving, data analysis & reporting for other tests running in the sensory lab
  • Frequently interact with the sensory scientists, offering advice on research approach and in product-related challenges
  • Ensure adherence to lab best practices
  • Other lab tasks could include: product purchasing, inventory, lab budget, test prioritization, protocol manuals and scheduling
  • Work through ambiguous situations; troubleshoot day-to-day issues and demonstrate agility in adjusting to evolving business needs
  • Learn and grow, as you stretch yourself to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement in the lab, to evolve the sensory function and your personal development
  • Stay up to date on new research techniques through conferences, research materials and industry experts; apply methods new to internal lab testing

What we\'re looking for:

Education:

Preferred: bachelor\'s degree in Sensory, Food Science, Psychology, or related field; Or bachelor\'s degree in non-Sensory field

Experience:

preferred 2+ years laboratory management

Superviso y & Travel:

This role has no direct reports but will maintain the schedule and payroll for panelists, and part-time employees and reports to a Sr. Manager. Experience managing and/or mentoring junior team members a plus. Travel up to 5% for training and/or on-site testing.

Knowledgeable in...

Food Science / Sensory Science / Basic Sensory Data Analysis (DI tests, ANOVA, t-tests) /

Microsoft Office (excel, word, PowerPoint) / Project Management / Budget Management

  • A plus if knowledgeable in new methods development / statistical software / meat products
