Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, a member of Johnson & Johnson’s Family of Companies, is recruiting for Associate Director, Oncology Business Strategy and Operations – Late Development Governance and Portfolio, based in Spring House, PA. Consideration will be given to other R&D sites (Raritan, NJ, Boston, MA, La Jolla, CA), and remote work arrangements will be considered on a case-by-case basis if approved by the company.

We discover and develop innovative medical solutions to address meaningful unmet medical needs in oncology, immunology, neuroscience, infectious diseases and vaccines, and cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

The position works closely with the Oncology Strategy and Operations Support Leader(s), the VP Clinical Development Heads for Heme and Solid Tumors, Oncology Delivery Unit Head, Clinical Development Teams, Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) and other functional leadership to support the planning, coordination, governance, and delivery of the Oncology late development portfolio.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the cross-functional Oncology Review Board (ORB) governance forum (as decision support lead) for successful implementation and alignment of strategies and portfolio delivery.

  • Partner with project teams and J&J IM R&D leadership to plan and schedule programs through governance forum; maintain relevant reference materials, tools, analytics, and attendance for forum membership.

  • Facilitate, document, and communicate outcomes of ORB reviews and memos.

  • Partner with Therapeutic Area (TA), Disease Area Stronghold (DAS), and DPDS leadership to facilitate program prioritization, budget management, resource planning, and pre-portfolio tracking to drive the strategic direction of the Oncology portfolio.

  • Coordinate key portfolio reporting, including quarterly pipeline reports and monthly updates to GOC/EC, and operational process management. Assist in tracking of the portfolio, analytics, reporting and end-to-end integrated planning efforts as appropriate.

  • Optimize forum operating principles and orchestrate process improvement efforts; troubleshoot and improve common challenges observed across programs to further optimize portfolio value.

  • Represent Oncology ORB on cross-functional operational forums and initiatives.

  • Deliver strategic and operational support to cross-functional late development Compound Development Teams to ensure strategic plans are implemented and resource is optimized; Provide business strategy and support to key areas of growth and emerging areas of scientific interest.

  • Provide additional support to teams, collaborations, and/or projects as business needs evolve.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor level degree required with at least 8 years demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams, projects, and/or portfolio management OR a Ph.D. or Master’s degree with at least 6 years demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams, projects, and/or portfolio management is required.

  • Hard-working and upbeat individual with strong interpersonal skills who also demonstrates knowledge of Oncology drug development and processes is required.

  • Adaptable mentality with ability to organize, manage, and balance multiple activities simultaneously is required.

  • Proven record of success managing projects in a sophisticated, cross-functional, research-based pharmaceutical company is required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build robust working relationships is required.
