Starting salary for this position is: $ 92,161 (Annually) The salary range represents the earning potential for this position, through training, evaluations and years spent working in this position with CCS.

*About Us  *

We are a community college district comprised of two accredited colleges, Spokane Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC). In addition to serving a large urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, the district provides educational services to rural communities throughout a 12,302 square-mile region in Eastern Washington. This region includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties, as well as portions of Lincoln County. Both colleges of CCS are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and governed by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.

About the Director of Tribal Relations

The Director of Tribal Relations, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff and Strategy, leads Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) initiatives connecting and further building relationships between CCS and the Indigenous communities in our service region, ensuring continuous consultation and open dialogue with tribal governments with the goal of better serving the needs of Indigenous students at our colleges and advocating for educational and programming equity for tribal communities.

This position represents the Chancellor serving as a liaison between CCS and federally recognized tribes within our region including Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (composed of Chelan, Chief Joseph Band of Nez Perce, Colville, Entiat, Lakes, Methow, Moses-Columbia, Nespelem, Okanogan, Palus, San Poil, and Wenatchi Tribes), Kalispel, and Nez Perce.

This position requires a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and governance structures, as well as excellent communication and relationship-building skills. The Director of Tribal Relations will consult with college staff regarding Indigenous research, library collections, cultural programming, student social life, instructional design, professional education, career services, and community relations.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy aimed at building trust-based government-to-government relationships to strengthen, sustain, and foster effective communication between CCS and tribal nations. Serve as the primary contact and CCS representative, facilitating open and consistent communication through regular meetings with tribal government leaders and affiliated organizations. *

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the customs and cultures of the tribal communities we serve, while establishing and managing CCS tribal relations and consultation procedures and protocols. Actively promote the recognition that we are operating CCS on the traditional and sacred homelands of our local tribes and foster awareness and understanding within CCS's offices and departments of Native culture and history. *
