The Salvation Army Northwest Division Administrative Assistant to Corps Officer in Spokane, Washington

Description DEPARTMENT: ADMINISTRATION POSITION TITLE: ADMIN ASSISTANT STATUS: FULL TIME, NON-EXEMPT SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICER MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. SCOPE OF POSITION: Reporting directly to the Corps Officer, the Administrative Assistant provides executive support in a one-on-one working relationship. They serve as a liaison to the Corps congregation and oversees special projects. They provide administrative help, leadership, and support in implementing the Family Ministry Program (Perine, 2008) as edited for The Spokane Citadel Corps. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years of experience supporting high level executives, preferably in a non-profit organization Preferred experience and interest in property projects, internal and external communications, partnership development, and fundraising Must be able to read, write, and communicate well in English Bilingual in English/Spanish, helpful KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must be creative and enjoy working within a mission-driven, results-driven, and community oriented environment Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail Emotional maturity with very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, council members, external partners, and donors Expert level written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be effective independently Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer service and response. Forward looking thinker, who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions Ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations Ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion Must be able to work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion Be at least 21 years of age Maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License Successfully complete Decision Driving Safety Test before driving for The Salvation Army and annually recertify as required Working knowledge and ability to use computer systems, including PowerPoint, Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with training ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Completes a broad variety of administrative tasks for the Corps Officers including: managing a calendar of appointments, composing and preparing correspondence, compiling documents for meetings, and arranging travel plans, itineraries, and agendas Plans, coordinates, and ensures the CO's schedule is followed and respected. Provides "gatekeeper" and "gateway" role, creating win-win situations for direct access to the CO's time and office Communicates, both verbally and written, directly and on behalf of CO, with Corps council members, donors, staff, and others on matters related to CO's programmatic initiatives Researches, prioritizes, and follows up on incoming issues and concerns addressed to the CO, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature. Determines appropriate course of action, referral, or response
