Our Mechanical engineers research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product life-cycle.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains – air, land, sea, space and cyber. Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed engineering designs using 3D modeling software for mechanical parts and assemblies

  • Responsible for producing technical drawings, and models that provide product definition and meet internal SNC standards

  • Manage technical data packages and releases through PLM tools

  • Participate in and lead rapid prototyping efforts with wide ranging levels of complexity finding solutions to open ended and ambiguous problems

  • Learn and become proficient with CAM programming and CNC operation

  • Leverage 3D printing capabilities utilizing in house FDM and MJF printing technologies

  • Receive technical guidance and mentorship from senior engineers and team members.

  • Collaborate on a cross-functional team with fellow mechanical engineers, systems engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers and program managers throughout the lifecycle of new product development

Must-haves:

  • Must be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior in college or technical school, with at least 6 months until graduation after end of internship

  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment

  • Strong organization skills and work ethic; detail oriented

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline and typically 0-2 or more years of relevant experience

  • Conceptual knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools

  • Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams

  • The ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with Solidworks or other 3D Modeling software.

  • Familiarity with applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5

  • Understanding of Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis

  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes
