Eaton’s IS VEH EMB eMobility electrification automotive division is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Specialist. ​

The expected annual salary range for this role is $105000.03 - $154000.04 a year.

What you’ll do:

Job summary

The engineer in this position will be reporting to a Supervisor/ Manager. The engineer will be responsible for leading and at times supporting new product development EV / Hybrid auto .. (PDU, PDC ( power disconnect ) and/ or sustaining engineering work on products manufactured at various global Eaton manufacturing plants. The new product development will be for Tier1 OEM power distribution and protection products, the sustaining work includes cost-out as well as product design analysis & verification activities. This engineer will need to work cross-functionally with PD&P engineering internationally, perform challenging assignments with minimal guidance. As a leader, the engineer will coach and guide peers with less experience to foster career growth and rapid project execution.

Job responsibilities

•Organize and execute project work as a mechanical engineering project leader

•Coach and support mechanical engineers supporting the project to follow Eaton policies, grow and execute projects efficiently and well

•Lead and/or support the design and the development (D&D) of the mechanical hardware/subassemblies for automotive Power Distribution and Protection (PD&P) products.

• Lead and/or support product sustaining work and cost-out activities. This is includes change requests from within Eaton and from the OEM customer.

• Lead and/or support typical design and development work: Requirement analysis, Design Architecture, Worst case calculations, DFMEAs, Design Review by Failure Mode, Design Review by Test Results, Drawings, Simulations, Bill of Materials, Engineering reports and similar

• Lead and/or participate in project monitoring and control activities such as: Work planning, team meetings, open issues list & risk management.

• Lead and/or participate in design reviews: System design, Boundary Diagrams, component selection, Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly.

• Create and execute design verification test plans

• Prepare the design documentation for release (drawings, models, tolerance stackups, engineering analysis).

• Provide manufacturing engineering with support during prototype product builds and new product launches.

• Provide support to test engineers during the investigation of issues that may surface during design validation testing (DV/PV Testing).

• Lead and/or support the investigation of product issues at the component, module and vehicle level.

• Participate in components supplier and production lines audits, as needed.

• Interface with customers and other internal groups such as Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Test / Validation Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering as needed

• Execute and participate/create presentations, product requirements, design assumptions etc. Support vehicle builds, product launches, and production quality investigation as needed.

• Follow Eaton’s Quality Management System (processes, standards, work instructions etc) in all product development work

• Release models, drawings and related product specifications using Eaton's PLM system Enovia"

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications (required):

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Minimum 7+ years of experience in engineering new product development of automotive, or related product design/development of electromechanical products. Applicable internships apply.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now and in the future.

• No relocation benefit is being offered for this role. All candidates considered must live within 50 miles of Southfield, MI facility. Active- Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

* This role requires working on-site at our Southfield, MI facility Tuesday thru Thursday with remote work option on Friday and Monday.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience with packaging electrical or electromechanical systems.

• Strong knowledge of the automotive product design and development cycle (from concept to production).

• Solid understanding of automotive specifications.

• Experience developing project work plans and project risk management.

• Experience in reviewing and discussing technical requirements with OEM Customers.

• Experience with prescriptive problem -solving tools like 8D.

Experience with HV power distribution components, contactors, fuses, busbars, and analysis for selection of same.

• Familiar with plastic injection molded part manufacturing processes and tooling.

• Familiar with aluminum die cast molded part manufacturing processes and tooling.

• Experience in design analysis: material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, FMEDA etc.

• Experience in developing design verification test plans.

• Hands-on experience using test & measurement equipment.

• Hands-on experience in evaluating products, using 3D printed parts for rapid evaluation of product design

• Hand on experience with discussion DFM / DFT topics with the Manufacturing plant teams.
