Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Donor Engagement (DDE) is responsible for increasing revenue from planned gifts by creating, executing, and evaluating strategies to acquire new donors and manage relationships with existing donors.This position will be a member of the PVM Foundation team.

  • The DDE uses relationship management skills, administration, marketing, problem solving, solicitation and communication skills to grow a sustainable program.

  • The DDE works with staff and volunteers to ensure positive outcomes for philanthropy.

  • Good judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to relate professionally to diverse audiences enable the DDE to build strong relationships with donors, colleagues, and professional advisors.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Lead and direct relationship development with planned giving prospects and donors.

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors.

  • Manage relationships with individuals who have included PVM in their estate plans or used other planned giving vehicles to donate to PVMF.

  • Develop relationships through personal visits and other communication.

  • Monitor and evaluate donor engagement/cultivation, recognition, and stewardship strategies to generate new giving opportunities.

  • Work in tandem with PVMF President, PVMF board and others to build on current relationships and build new relationships with planned giving donors

Develop and execute multi-channel marketing activities for planned gifts.

  • Create proposals and other written documentation for planned gift cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship.

  • Establish and grow a portfolio of planned gift expectancies.

  • Establish and promote a Bequest Awareness Program.

  • Develop a communications plan for integrated and consistent marketing.

  • Work with advisors to planned giving prospects.

Manage administration of planned gifts and expectancies.

  • Create donor illustrations and proposals using planned giving software (Crescendo or PG Calc).

  • Develop processes to track, record, and substantiate planned gift commitments and expectancies.

  • Cultivate major gift donations.

  • Increase the Calvin Society membership.

Direct the Planned Giving Program.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge and skills for planned giving.

  • Create an annual plan for planned giving, including metrics, timelines, financial goals, high value cultivation contacts, budget, events, mailings, communications, gift acceptance policies and related activities.

  • Provide analysis of planned giving prospects, activity, contacts, and commitments to evaluate return on investment.

  • Work with staff to coordinate efforts with prospects and donors.

  • Provide cross training for staff to increase their awareness of planned giving and professional skill development.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred

  • 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success in philanthropy, especially planned gifts and major gifts

  • Networked with local planned giving practitioners preferred

  • Effective and flexible interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience dealing with planned giving donors preferred

Required Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of planned giving methods, trends, laws, tax, and financial planning.

  • Ability to use Raiser’s Edge, Planned Giving software and Microsoft Office suite

  • Budgeting and reporting

Other Physical Requirements

Must be able to possess a flexible schedule working evenings, weekends, and available for overnight travel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employee will work in normal office conditions but will be exposed to a variety of other environments, such as public settings, long-term care, and individual homes, in the course of relationship development and solicitation.
