Willis Towers Watson Defined Contribution Consultant in Southfield, Michigan

Our Defined Contribution Retirement Advisory Consultants provide investment advisory and fiduciary support services to mid-size clients. Target market includes clients with 200 - 5,000 employees, and $10M - $200M in defined contribution plan assets.

This position requires extensive knowledge and experience in the defined contribution business. With overall responsibility for growing and maintaining an assigned client base, the Consultant will have a wide range of responsibilities including business development, client relationship management, and building relationships with internal partners to support the successful identification of prospective clients.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role with a regional or national investment advisory practice, have the applicable licenses, and be able to immediately step into the role to support a book of defined contribution clients. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a successful business development track record and be able to drive new business working in conjunction with internal business partners.

The Role

  • Develop and lead client engagements with defined contribution advisory clients

  • Provide comprehensive investment advisory and consulting support

  • Lead investment committee meetings for assigned clients

  • Coordinate recordkeeper vendor searches for new and existing clients

  • Conduct fee benchmarking studies

  • Conduct research and provide recommendations on DC plan investment menu structure and investment options

  • Communicate and provide assistance to clients regarding plan design, compliance, vendor management and employee education

  • Follow up with clients and other Willis Towers Watson team members on action plans to ensure decisions are implemented, contracts prepared, and appropriate parties notified

  • Work with other business lines to identify and qualify potential retirement client opportunities

  • Support client retention; identify opportunities for additional WTW services

The Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Licenses (Series 6 or 7, and 63; Series 65 Investment Advisor Rep, or Series 66 (covering the requirements of the Series 63 and 65) /State Life & Health license (or to be obtained within 6 months)

  • MBA and professional designation/certification relating to the DC industry are encouraged

  • Extensive knowledge of the defined contribution vendor marketplace

  • Ability to interpret plan documents, contracts, and administrative processes

  • Working knowledge of ERISA

  • Experience with M&A transactions

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and coordinate with other team members

  • Ability to handle and resolve client related issues in fast paced environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including executive-level presentation skills

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), and ability to learn new systems and technologies

  • Experience with RPAG platform is a plus

  • Ability to travel for client meetings as required
