What will you do?

Come join a diverse team that supports Ion Torrent semiconductor sequencing chip research and development and is responsible for analyzing, understanding, and controlling the surface chemistry of the sensor devices. We collaborate with many different teams and individuals to improve how the chips work with the entire system and build new and exciting technologies.

In this role, you will study and develop novel surface chemistries and processes that can be transferred to manufacturing, enabling and empowering our customers with the best product performance and reliability. To develop and evaluate new surface chemistries, we use both analytical techniques as well as functional testing through our next-generation sequencing workflows. We are proficient and efficient with the full range of our automated instrumentation for sample preparation and sequencing, enabling functional evaluation and linking our effort and innovation to bottom-line performance.

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Experience:

  • Proficiency in wet laboratory work and industry standard tools and processes, proven through academic or industrial lab experience

  • Experience in surface functionalization of metals and/or glass surfaces

  • Excellent teamwork and collaborative skills

  • Effective communication skills in writing, presentation, and conversation

  • Self starter mentality and experimental curiosity

  • Familiarity with fluorescence microscopy or other surface analytical techniques such as contact angle or XPS measurements

  • Knowledge of molecular biology or DNA sequencing technologies would be a definite plus
