JOB SUMMARY
Assesses and obtains necessary information relating to precipitating events to determine appropriate services and to reduce client and family conflict. Completes documentation including referring agency information, physical and mental health history, and scheduling of appointments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or other closely related field, OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must successfully pass an initial criminal background check as well as every one year (1) thereafter by the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI).
Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Contacts parents/legal guardians and schedules appointment with clinical specialists; initiates referrals to needed community resources when appropriate, including follow up contact.
Handles telephone calls to provide assistance, facilitates entrance; provides information regarding community resources.
Interfaces with law enforcement and other referring parties to obtain pertinent information.
Screens and assesses client’s behavior as well as physical and mental health and current family environment to determine appropriate services.
Checks client belongings for weapons or contraband and confiscates unsafe or illegal materials.
Completes case recording documentation and all pertinent information in individual client's records as per agency policy.
Assists shift supervisor in making decisions and overseeing/directing staff and volunteers regarding discharge of interim shelter duties and responsibilities. Acts as shift supervisor in their absence.
Provides a safe, clean and fair environment by engaging and monitoring youth to promote cooperation and compliance. Attends to potentially dangerous situations including facility and equipment damage.
Facilitates psycho-educational and supportive groups.
Provides community outreach to schools, local law enforcement agencies, and allied agencies regarding available resources for families and gives community presentations.
Manages client cases in the substance abuse or prevention program.
Facilitates service projects.
Completes housing visits based on the program.
Transports clients as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Works with youth and deals with certain working conditions that may cause exposure to biohazards such as human waste and vomit.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
