The role of the postpartum peer support group facilitator is crucial within the St. Joseph County Department of Health (SJCDoH). By providing resources and emotional support, the facilitator helps pregnant women and those who have recently given birth navigate the postpartum journey. Creating a safe and welcoming space, the facilitator encourages women to openly express their mental health challenges after childbirth.
- Responsibilities:
o Assist in the development and facilitation of a postpartum peer support program.
o Organize and lead regular support group sessions every other Tuesday from 6p-8p for individuals experiencing postpartum challenges to promote improved mental health among participants.
o Create a safe and welcoming environment for participants to share their thoughts and experiences.
o Provide emotional support to postpartum individuals.
o Advocate for mental health awareness.
o Liaise with external organizations and agencies to offer information and support options to participants.
o Communicate with staff and participants regarding ongoing needs and program updates.
o Complete group notes and other documentation within 24 hours or as directed by the CARE Director.
o Provides recommendations for program improvement.
- Qualifications:
o Bachelors degree in related fields and two years of related experience or equivalent preferred.
o Experience working with pregnant and postpartum women.
o Knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders, and their impact on pregnancy and postpartum.
o Experience in facilitating group sessions and educational programs.
- Duration:
o The Term of Agreement will start at an agreed upon date and can be terminated at any time by either party with written notice.
