PAY RATE

$16.48 per hour

DESCRIPTION

Salary - $16.48 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:Assists in maintenance of the Citys plant collections.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for: spring cleanup, mowing, string trimming, pruning, raking, plant removal, trash removal, watering, weeding, cultivating, planting and transplanting, mulching, pesticide applications, fertilizing, miscellaneous grounds work, putting up and taking down special event and holiday decorations, assisting others as needed.
  • Follow City of South Bend, and VPA safety guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of City or County government a plus.
  • Knowledge of landscaping, gardening, or general lawn maintenance preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:Valid Drivers license required.

EQUIPMENT:Shovels, rakes, hoses, pesticide applicators, edgers, saws, pruners, loppers, wrenches, hammers, other hand tools, brooms, string trimmers, mowers, blowers, tillers, other gas-powered equipment, ladders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit and walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required in this job include vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but occasionally moderately loud while mowing or weed eating in the field. The employee is frequently exposed to hot, wet and humid conditions. Smoke free environment.
