Building Trades Teacher

Position Title: Construction Trades I Teacher

Salary Range: Teacher Contract

Contract Length: Full-time Teacher Contract

Position Summary:

This position requires a qualified Career and Technical Education Trade and Industrial Building Trades Technology instructor or an individual with a minimum of three years of occupational related experience who will successfully develop and implement all aspects of the Construction Trades I with students.

Immediate Supervisor: Director, Career & Technical Education

Job Description:

Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and develop workplace attitudes

  • Differentiate instruction to meet individual student learning styles

  • Update the curriculum to meet changing IN state standards for Construction Trades I

  • Update the curriculum to meet current industry standards

  • Include a unit on safety and OSHA standards within the curriculum

  • Work in coordination with the South Bend ConTech Board of Directors

  • Provide opportunities for students to participate in SkillsUSA

  • Participate in Career and Technical Education events

  • Provide appropriate instruction for students to earn dual credits with post-secondary institutions

  • Provide instruction in all phases of the building trades industry as a home is built from beginning to end.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and provide opportunities for parent involvement

  • Maintain open communication with administrators of all high schools in regard to grades, attendance, and behavior

  • Manage the behavioral, social, and emotional issues of a diverse ethnic/racial student population

  • Integrate writing and math skills into the construction trades curriculum

  • Actively participate in ongoing curriculum development

  • Demonstrate experience implementing innovative instructional programs

  • Flexible, positive, and proactive in the ability to manage a 3-hour instructional block.

  • Ability to maintain safety and organization on the home build work site.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid Indiana vocational license in Trade and Industrial Building Trades Technology or have three years experience in building trades and be able to qualify for a vocational certification.

  • Must be able to obtain, at a minimum, an Indiana Occupational (Workplace) Specialist I teacher license. Individuals may qualify for an occupational teaching license based upon three years (6000 hours) of directly related work experience within the field within the past five years. A traditional teaching license is desirable but is not required.

  • Prior teaching experience in urban education preferred but not required

  • Organizational skills required

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, faculty and administration.

  • Knowledge in the use of the Google Suite Professional Software
