Naval Supply Systems Command MAIL CLERK in Souda Bay, Greece
Summary You will serve as a MAIL CLERK in the Mail Facility at the assigned Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC), Department of the Navy (DON), Souda Bay, Greece. Responsibilities You will process and consolidate mail to ensure it is transported at the lowest cost possible while at the same time meeting delivery and handling standards. You will drive a postal box truck or van as a means of receiving and distributing government official mail. You will apply postage to mail and parcels through the use of various providers (e.g. United States Postal Service (USPS), commercial carriers) and ensures articles are arranged for pick up or transferred to the USPS for further processing. You will receive, sort, process, postage metering, distribution, and delivery of mail. You will perform various duties involving the control, processing, and delivery of incoming and outgoing mail. You will receive mail and parcels from the United States Postal Service (USPS), FEDEX/UPS/DHL field offices, and numerous tenants at the assigned location. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-4) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Maintaining logs of daily postal service business to provide reports to the Postal Officer. 2)Performing a variety of mail handling services (e.g., sort official and personal mail to support distribution to customers). 3) Performing clerical duties such as maintaining administrative records, required forms and adequate miscellaneous off ice and postal service supplies. 4) Maintaining daily accountability of cash and cash instruments associated with a full-service financial post office. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The NATO Status of Force Agreement (SOFA) between Greece and the United States prohibits the hiring of any person who holds Greek citizenship/nationality as part of the civilian component with the US Forces in Greece. Souda Bay is a location that is a without the Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) support normally associated with an overseas assignment. OTHER CONDITIONS: This PD may be used as the full performance level position description depending on mission and organizational requirements. However, the GS-05 "MAY" bridge to the GS-06 subject to supervisory and organizational requirements. This is no promise of promotion. Eligible incumbents have the opportunity to compete for higher graded mail clerk positions that may become available. This position requires incumbent to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. This position is designated as a Mission-Essential position. This is defined as an employee who may be activated to maintain continuity of Government Operations during emergencies involving national security, a natural disaster, extended emergencies, or other unique situations such as snow emergency days, severe weather conditions, holidays, increased security periods, national emergency or other dismissal or closure situations. Incumbent "may" be coded as "key" and as such may be required be removed from their military recall status. A signed statement of understand required. Physical Demands: The employee performs moderately strenuous work involving some physical exertion such as standing, walking, stooping, stretching, or bending for long periods, or frequent lifting and carrying of packages, pouches, or bags weighing 70 lbs. Incumbent may be subject to occasional travel of up to 25%. This may require walking, bending and climbing during visits to various Navy and commercial installations. During the course of this travel, industrial facilities may be visited or toured. Work Environment: The employee works in areas involving moderate risks and discomfort such as high noise levels, paper dust, ink, solvents, and lubricants. The employee works around operating equipment and must follow established safety procedures. The employee works around heavy boxes, hand trucks, carts, taping/wrapping material, and portable postal conveyances used in the proper handling/movement of official mail. The majority of work is is performed in a controlled environment. Some work is performed in a mobile setting where driving a mail truck or van to outlying mail facilities is required. Occasionally, the ambient air temperature may be in excess of or fall well below the employee's level of comfort.
