The Yard Jockey is responsible for providing support for trailer movement at the distribution center, as well as assisting preparation of trailers for shipping and monitoring the status of loaded trailers. He or she appropriately handles all materials following company policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure workplace. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned according to each receiving or production department.
Qualifications
Must be 19 years or older
Six months of experience in a similar position preferred
Experience in operating a pallet jack, forklift and other power equipment preferred
Have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
Have 100,000-mile tractor-trailer experience is desired
Be accident free driving record for the past three years desired.
Minimum of one year verifiable experience driving, switching or commercial tractor
Responsibilities
Drive tractor-trailer within yard or within short distances outside of yard, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering on the road and on Company premises.
Meet this position's physical demands
At direction of Management and/or yard management system, move empty trailers to shipping doors, set loaded trailers to the doors and remove loaded/empty trailers from dock doors
Maintain safe and efficient dock operation by switching trailers and equipment to and from docks
Performs daily yard checks
Prepares and maintains accurate records and/or logs as required policies and procedures
Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water. Notifies supervision of current or anticipated repair needs
Complies with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines
Place empty trailers/containers into the loading dock doors and seal and remover loaded trailers
Must be able to seal trailer
Maintain tracking log for trailer moves and dock assignments

Able to work long hours based on the needs of the business including daily overtime, holidays and overtime as required
Physical Requirements and Essential Functions
Regular, reliable attendance required
Able to climb in and out of trailers consistently
Able to frequently operate a pallet jack and/or forklift if assigned
Able to stand and walk, reach with arms and hands, lift and carry, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel
Able to perform greater than average lifting (50-65 lbs) with some overhead lifting required
Must have specific vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision and the ability to judge distance
