PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION The purpose of this classification is to perform clerical and fiscal duties in the maintenance of utility billing activities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Posts utility payments to correct accounts. Maintains and updates account information to reflect payment information, service changes, customer information, etc. Prepares receipts, records and other pertinent documentation of payments and account status.Receives and processes applications for new accounts/service for both water/sewer and sanitation services. Enters applications for new residential and commercial accounts into the department database. Receipts and enters deposits for new accounts. Coordinates work order for disconnects, readings for new accounts, reconnects, etc. Coordinates with commercial sanitation company for new dumpsters and pick up services.Enters meter reading information into computer, calculates service bills, reviews and corrects errors; and generates and mails bills.Greets and assists customers entering the office to obtain information and/or make payments for utility bills. Receives, records and receipts payments. Answers questions regarding account, policies, procedures, etc.Answers telephones and provides information to callers regarding City utility rates and accounts and other financial information. Refers callers to other staff members as appropriate, and/or takes messages.Dispatches technicians for service calls; and performs service calls and meter reading as needed.Prepares reports on utility billing program and service. Prepares program-related correspondence as needed. Establishes and maintains files.Orders office supplies as needed.Receives and distributes incoming mail. Prepares outgoing mail. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONSPerforms other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED; supplemented by 5 months of experience performing customer service or fiscal work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must successfully pass criminal background and credit checks.
