SITKA SCHOOL DISTRICT Building Secretary in Sitka, Alaska

Purpose: The Secretary coordinates school office and bookkeeping to assist in the efficient operation of the school district. To accomplish these tasks, the Building Secretary works closely with the students, staff and administration of the Sitka School District. Building Secretaries work in the following areas: School offices, and Counseling office. Essential Functions: 1. Provides office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the school. 2. Ensure that all activities under the employee's direct supervision conform to district guidelines. 3. Communicate effectively with members of the school district and community, supporting the values of an education, promoting positive public relations, and maintaining confidentiality regarding school related business. 4. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. 5. Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery related to specific job duties. 6. Work independently with initiative and cooperation with staff while providing for the safety and well-being of all children. 7. Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions: 1. Requires preparation and skill in working with students, parents and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment. 2. Will work in noisy and crowded environments. 3. Requires physical exertion to manually, move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. 4. Requires sitting, walking, standing stooping, kneeling, crawling bending, turning, and reaching. 5. Proper workplace etiquette must be followed, including maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.

Specific Responsibilities: 1. Perform office routines and practices associated in a busy, productive, and efficient environment. 2. Screen visitors, telephone calls, and correspondence, directing them to the appropriate person or department. 3. Compose, type, and copy materials; obtain, organize, and distribute or file pertinent data. 4. Register and orient students, maintaining information on various student activities. 5. Assist students and distribute office passes as needed. 6. Secure building before leaving and make arrangements for after hour entry. 7. Keep abreast of new information, innovative, and ideas related to office management. 8. Other duties as assigned by building principal.
