KBR Field Data Surveyor / Data Manager  in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Field Data Surveyor / Data Manager 

KBR is seeking a  Field Data Surveyor / Data Manager  to join its talented team in  Sioux Falls, South Dakota .   KBR, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center ( http://eros.usgs.gov/ ) near Sioux Falls, SD ( http://www.siouxfalls.org ). 

The Field Data Surveyor/Data Manager for Landsat Calibration Validation (CalVal) activities is responsible for designing and operating field plans for a wide variety of scientific data acquisitions designed for calibration/validation of airborne and/or satellite systems along with scientific analysis of temporal environmental changes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Performon-site field surveysusing a variety of instruments and tools

  • Prepareacquisitionproposalsforpossible field data collections to present to USGSProject Management

  • Requestsite access from a variety of differentland management officeslikenational parkservices, Bureauof Land Management,to private property

  • Coordinate field staff, vehicles, and equipment fordeployment and during operations/acquisitions

  • Interfacewithand report to USGSProjectManagementover field campaignstatus and results

  • Processfielddata for USGS Project Management

  • Verifyground survey data for accuracyand projectioninformation

  • Researchprevious results and compare withnewly acquired data

  • Perform maintenanceand upkeep on a wide variety of field collection instruments

  • Support characterization of satellite and other imagery as needed

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in peer reviews

  • Prepare and present results toUSGS Project Management and/or other groups as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the LandsatCalValTeam Lead

  • Write and publish white papers and journal articles as needed

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 yearsinperformingground and/or bathymetricfieldsurveys orrelated experience in afield data acquisitionrole

  • Preference will be given to anyone with experience in satellite ground systems, remote sensing data capture,terrestrial/mobilelidar acquisition/processing,data management anddistribution,bathymetric data acquisition/analysis(sonar or bathymetric lidar),ground controlacquisition/processing (base station,rovers, RTK, totalstation, etc.), or relevantexperience

Education

  • Bachelor of Scienceor equivalent(accredited)degree inSurveying,Civil Engineering, Forestry,System Characterization,and/orPhotogrammetry

  • Preferencewill be givento applicants thathave majored in surveying, or havein-field experiencein performing ground control and/orbathymetric data acquisitions

Required Skills

  • Knowledge ofground control surveysand processingof control data

  • Ability tooperate survey equipmentand tools

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

  • Ability to thinkand operateindependentlyin the field

  • Ability to conduct themselves in a manner thatreflects professionalism when dealing within-housecolleagues andout-in-the-field connections

  • Ability to handle complex multitask environments

Desired Skills

  • Experience inlidar (preferably RIEGL)airborne,terrestrial and/or mobile systems

  • Experience performing ground control surveys forvalidation against airborne/mobiledata

  • Experience withmaintainingfield equipmentranging from a base station and rovers, total stations, unmanned aerialsystems (UAS), lidar systems, ground targets,ATV/UTVs, camera systems, etc.

  • Familiarity with configuration management principles and procedures

  • Knowledge ofremote sensingdata, projection systems, data truthing,point cloud data,image manipulation, and/or signal processing

  • Thorough understanding ofairborne UAS systems,inertial measuring units (IMU), GPS/GNSSsystems,airborne/mobile camera systems,and/orReal Time Kinematic (RTK) systems

  • Familiarity and basicfunctionality with GISand otherand spatial data viewingsoftware such as ArcGIS, ENVI, etc.

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.
