Description:

Provides information and communication services to patients, visitors, employees and communication services to patients, visitors, employees, and physicians. Is key in maintaining rapport interdepartmentally and with external agencies.

Employment Type: Part Time, 20 hours per week

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 2:30pm - 7:30pm

What you will Do

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of orders and understands the supplies/equipment needed by staff, patients, or physicians and orders them independently. Orders and maintains department supplies.

  • Assists with the coordination of incoming and outgoing communication to the department, including inquiries from patients and the visitor’s intercom. Answers departmental phone appropriately and efficiently, assuring the transmission of communication and relevant information to nursing personnel. Receives and records reports/messages from other departments, and utilizing good judgment, relays information to nurse in charge or other appropriate personnel.

  • Is accurate and proficient in the review of patient charts and enters charges. Determines that all charges are accounted for.

  • Completes required training or ADT process, order entry, central scheduling and assigned billing systems. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers, i.e., order entry and charges. Maintains patient charts by accurately filing reports and recording information.

  • Accesses patient accounts to verify and make available charge information to patients and authorized personnel.

  • Assists and communicates with physicians and nurses by retrieving charts, obtaining requested reports.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent degree with post high school related courses required.

  • A minimum of 2 years prior hospital/medical related experience preferred.

  • Proficient knowledge of Medical Terminology is required.

  • Ability to function effectively under stressful and in emergency situations. Possesses excellentemotional maturity with outgoingpersonality and self-confident attitude to deal with all levels of the public and/or patients.

  • Has a very strong desire to meet the needs of people and serve the public.

  • Able to prioritize, organize and communicate with many people.

  • Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.
