Splunk Director, Commercial Legal APAC in Singapore, Singapore

We are looking for a commercial legal counsel and leader who can contribute to Splunk’s vision by supporting sales growth and success in the APAC theater, with regional headquarters in Singapore. You are a Director level lawyer with deep transactional expertise, management experience and leadership acumen. You will lead a team of sophisticated transactional lawyers in Japan, ANZ and Singapore, and play an important role in helping Splunk to continue to develop and grow in APAC.

You will support sales, customer success, and partner teams, with a focus on drafting and negotiating complex Cloud, software and other technology sales agreements, counseling on channel operations, driving processes and helping scale for growth to reduce contract cycle time. You will also partner with other legal team members and other business functions to drive business objectives.

This role is based in Singapore and will report to the Senior Director, Commercial Legal (International) based in London, UK.

To succeed, the role requires you to have expertise in leading international legal teams focused on transactions and supporting the business in a regional leadership role. You need to possess analytical and business minded approach to legal issues and the ability to perform independently as well as cross-functionally; demonstrate flexibly in a collaborative, dynamic environment; know how to prioritize and drive multiple initiatives to conclusion in a timely manner; possess strong persuasion, negotiation, presentation and collaboration skills, and excellent communication (oral and written) skills in English; be self-motivated, self-reliant, and confident; and have a good sense of humor.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Director, Commercial Legal, acting as the legal lead for Splunk’s commercial activities in APAC;

  • Manage Splunk’s commercial legal team in APAC;

  • Handle complex legal negotiations, with a focus on enterprise cloud, SaaS and technology sales across multiple jurisdictions;

  • Build strong internal and external relationships while balancing the needs of the Field with Splunk’s global strategy and priorities;

  • Provide deep knowledge of relevant laws concerning commercial terms, including data protection/governance, cybersecurity and government contracts;

  • Anticipate changes to and advise on relevant laws impacting Splunk’s revenue activities and our customers;

  • Draft and negotiate outbound software licenses, sales channel and strategic alliance sales, system integrator and OEM contracts;

  • Provide continuous improvement of contract templates, playbooks,, and processes;

  • Effectively advise, educate and train on and assist in the enforcement of Splunk’s corporate policies and compliance programs;

  • Implement initiatives that advance Splunk’s business including Splunk’s priorities; and

  • Perform other legal responsibilities as requested.

Requirements:

  • Law degree and legal qualification with excellent academic credentials, current bar admission or equivalent;

  • Min. 12 years’ experience with a leading SaaS, Cloud, or enterprise software company;

  • Excellent leadership skills in a fast growth environment with a track record of committing to results, building impactful, hard-working teams, attracting and retaining talent;

  • Deep substantive transaction experience with complex SaaS, Cloud and licensing agreements, working with two-tier sales partners;

  • Experience in compliance, data security, privacy, and intellectual property matters, and expertise of data protection laws;

  • Outstanding contract negotiation, drafting, communication and presentation skills in English;

  • Superior business judgment and the ability to address complex opportunities and issues in creative and effective ways under time pressure.

Base Pay Range

Singapore

Base Pay: SGD 318,400.00 - 437,800.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
