Analyst, Finance Data Governance (5 months Contract)

Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of Finance Projects in APAC, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all

activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

  • Responsible for supporting the execution of the APAC Finance day-to-day data management.

  • Work in conjunction with data consumers and Domain stakeholders to establish data quality rules, standards, and thresholds, to ensure appropriate data quality monitoring practices are in place.

  • Partner with technology, the Regulatory Risk Governance Group (Toronto) together with Enterprise Data Office and technology for the delivery of any tools required for data governance and attestation operations.

  • Work with IT partners and source providers to establish data attributes, source to target mappings and identification of critical data elements.

  • Pull data through SQL or other applications and have a good knowledge of business analysis.

  • Establish data quality rules for identified CDEs and work with the data office in establishing data quality monitoring.

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining strong data management by ensuring finance groups adhere to the data risk policy and data standards.

  • Develop and maintain standards as required relating to data quality, issue management and change management for APAC Finance data that align with bank policies.

  • Lead the identification and root-cause analysis of data quality and attestation issues arising through the data and attestation process chain, from source system to final reporting.

  • Prioritizing data and attestation issues and collaborating with business and technology stakeholders to address and remediate issues in a timely manner based on priority and severity.

  • Tracks and reports on data and attestation governance work to milestones and progress.

Experience/Other Information

  • Studying for a degree/major in Computer Science/Accounting/Banking and Finance or related technical field

  • Preferably 1-2 years of experience as a business analyst.

  • Has experience working on data projects, viz. identification of CDEs, data lineage, data quality and issue management

  • Knowledge on finance, data risk policy and data standards is a plus

  • Skilled and has working experience Tableau, Power Bi, SQL, SAS, Microsoft Office and other analytics tools.

  • Experienced in working with Collibra would be an asset.

  • Strong understanding of Agile methodology and processes

  • Detail oriented, methodical, ability to investigate complex issues, identify root cause, formulate, and implement solutions.

  • Excellent oral/written communication / interpersonal skills

  • Team player with a positive and proactive learning attitude
