Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist II will partner with EHS specialist team members and production leaders to improve workplace performance by assessing work environments, systems, processes, and procedures. The EHS specialist will also promote an incident-free workplace through identifying and mitigating EHS risk and implementing safety and environmental management systems in accordance with regulations, corporate compliance policies and standards.

Position Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring, preparing, implementing, updating, and maintaining company policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Conduct incident/accident investigations, root cause analysis, reporting, and implement corrective actions. This position will also be responsible for creating, documenting, reporting, and presenting incident trending analysis.

  • Lead all aspects of hazardous waste management, including but not limited to weekly inspections, storage, disposal, and waste minimization initiatives.

  • Conduct workplace inspections for multiple facilities and document results on a daily, weekly, monthly, or otherwise scheduled routine.

  • Assist in the development and revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safety and health of personnel and the effectiveness of services provided.

  • Collaborate with other EHS team members, production managers, and other parties to implement procedures, plans, processes, best practices, and safety standards.

  • Develop and conduct technical training as needed or directed. Training at AV is conducted both virtually and in person.

  • Participate in Gemba walks, Improvement Task Force activities, as well as lead safety committees.

  • Assist in collecting valuable data and support in reporting key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Implement, execute, and maintain JHA (Job Hazard Analysis) programs. Ensure JHA procedures are executed effectively and regularly updated to reflect changing circumstances.

  • Coordinate and manage the DOT (Department of Transportation) program, including overseeing compliance with DOT regulations, program management, coordination with third-party vendors, and internal employee training.

  • Contribute to the development and execution of an EHS management system in support of the site's ISO 14001 certification.

  • Lead and take ownership of the Laser program, managing all aspects of laser safety, including compliance, training, and ensuring the safe use of lasers within the organization.

  • Lead EHS projects, programs, and initiatives as needed; may serve as a subject expert for multiple EHS initiatives.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the EHS manager and/or Director.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, Safety Sciences or related technical degree is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Minimum of 3 - 6 years of relevant experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Federal, State, other regulations, and agencies (Cal OSHA, CUPA, CA Fire Code, etc.)

  • Extensive knowledge on hazardous waste management and DOT

  • Basic knowledge and experience in ergonomic basic

  • Proficient with MS Office (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and other office productivity tools

  • Knowledge on ISO 14001 and 45001

  • Must have a valid Driver's license and clean driving record, in order to drive company vehicles

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  • Current certification in DOT, ISO Audit, CalOSHA, Hazard Waste Management

  • Demonstrates effective project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrates competency in handling multiple priorities and use sound judgment.

  • Strong leadership skills are required to ensure progress and compliance with EHS programs in areas where this role does not directly report.

  • Well organized – able to track/follow-up on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously to ensure it is executed in a timely manner.

  • Experience in explosive regulations and workplace safety

  • Focuses on teamwork, collaboration and puts the success of the team above one's own interests

  • Able to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, where small teams share a broad variety of duties

  • Displays strong initiative and drive to accomplish goals and meet company objectives

  • Takes ownership and responsibility for current and past work products

  • Is committed to learning from mistakes and driven to improve and enhance performance of oneself, others, and the company.

Physical Demands

The salary range for this role is:

$88,000 - $124,740
