This position is responsible for leading and contributing to the development and implementation of genetic evaluation models, selection indexes and application of any selective breeding strategy to maximize genetic gain and competitive advantage for Cobb products. The successful candidate will collaborate within the quantitative genetics team but is also expected to work across groups including external collaborators, business stakeholders and management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support activities and analysis related to delivery of breeding values for weekly genetic evaluations;
  • Contribute strong technical and process expertise in coding, researching and deploying models, algorithms and systems for breeding program design and breeding goal definition optimization, genetic evaluation and data wrangling;
  • Evaluate and implement state of the art procedures/models/technologies that can maximize genetic progress of economically relevant traits in broilers;
  • Maintain current knowledge on scientific advancements in genetics/genomics predictive modeling, including linear, Bayesian and Artificial Intelligence learning methods;
  • Establish, maintain and coordinate efforts/projects in the quantitative area to enhance the company\'s strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD in the field of genetics/genomics/breeding or related areas is required.

  • Experience: 8+ years\' applicable genetics experience is required, knowledge on animal/agricultural species industry is beneficial; proven record of proficiency in the area of genetics/genomics through academic/professional achievements is required.

  • Advanced proficiency in computational languages and genetic evaluation/simulation/imputation such as Python, R, C++, BLUPF90 family, Bash scripting, FImpute, among others.

  • Outstanding team-player and self-starter with great interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required.

  • Travel: 0-10% of the time

  • Surpevisory: None

Biosecurity: The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering before entering the facility and could require multiple showers during the workday. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds). The Company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times. Must be willing to follow the guidelines in the Biosecurity Standards.

Physical Requirements: Must use safe lifting techniques. While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk or hear. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
